Fantasy Baseball 2025 Two-Start Pitchers & Streaming Starters - Week 4

Week 4 of the 2025 Fantasy Baseball season rolls into town with a good number of top-tier arms to rely upon for pitching goodness, and per usual, another group of Tier 3 hurlers to avoid for their two trips to the bump, or at least, not immediately snatch them off the wire merely because they will be on the hill for a couple of appearances this scoring period. A couple of the SPs in the bottom group could possibly be useful for a single start, but for the most part, the better option is to seek out Fantasy Baseball 2025 Streaming Starters in the second half of this article and avoid those third-tier SPs unless desperate for innings or some counting stats.

Another week with a healthy number of ace-level arms to plug into your fantasy rotations and take advantage of their dual-start status in Week 3. Do not concern yourself with the park where these hurlers are scheduled to work their mound magic, nor who the opponent might be. These are the SPs that you should be thanking your lucky stars to have populating your roster.

Lugo notched a quality start (QS) in his second start against the visiting Orioles, and now goes on the road for a pair of starts. Fortunately for him, he has proven to be more of a road warrior over the past couple of seasons. His strikeout numbers are mediocre at best through his two trips to the hill, but should rebound to his still below average but more acceptable level of production as the season progresses.
Gray’s team has not been strong when playing away from their home base, and the second of his starts is due to occur in the Bronx, not exactly the ideal matchup. Gray is posting a 19:2 K/BB over his three time on the bump this year, and has a great WHIP (0.88), although his ERA is inflated due to one difficult outing where he was touched for five earned tallies. If you were to sit him for his second trip to toe the slab, that might be wise.
Walker made his 2025 debut at home, collecting both a victory and a QS over the visiting Rockies. He was an efficient SP, needing just 74 pitches to complete his 6.0 IP, and has two home starts to cement his role in the Philadelphia starting rotation.
Gillispie was not as efficient in his second consecutive start against the Mets, lasting just 4.0 IP and racking up just a pair of strikeouts this outing. He does open this scoring period at home, where his results have been much better than when he is not enjoying home cooking. As with Gray above, although the Marlin SP has two starts on his docket, discretion might be the better part of valor and shelving him against the host Philadelphia offense might be better for your pitching stats.

As noted in the opening to this week’s article, these pitchers are best left off the lineup sheet for your 2025 Fantasy Baseball team(s), although any SP facing the White Sox could be a passable plug-in option just based on the opponent they are taking on in Week 3. For the greater part, though, these hurlers have the potential to harm your ratios without providing any tremendous value in terms of counting stats.
Potential Streaming Options for Week 4
There is no promise that each game day will provide a streaming option. First of all, the pitcher must be available in at least 50% of leagues to be a viable candidate to snag off the wire. Then, the pitchers discussed above are not included as they have a different sort of value, even though some might be available as free agents in your league. Plus, some days the matchups and/or venues just do not figure as positive enough factors to favor plugging the arm into your rotation, even for one start. That all being said, here are this week’s best streaming candidates…
Quinn Priester, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Detroit Tigers
The third-year righthander had a great initial outing as a member of the Milwaukee rotation, pitching in the tough environs of Coors Field and limiting the Rockies to a single earned run, although that was on round-tripper to Brenton Doyle. He does not figure to become a fixture in the Brewer rotation, so the goal would be to take advantage of his limited starts until the SPs residing on the IL come back to resume their roles. Stream him while the opportunity exists.
Tomoyuki Sugano, Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Guardians
The 35-year-old right-hander looked much sharper in his second MLB start, taking a 5.0 IP victory in Kansas City. He showcases great control, but will not be a superior source of Ks with a low-90s fastball. He has a favorable matchup at home in this contest, at home against the Guardians who are not knocking the cover off the ball so far in 2025.
Griffin Canning, New York Mets at Minnesota Twins
The oft-injured righty has been effective early in the season, although he has yet to record a win. He has allowed only three earned runs while striking out 10 hitters over 9.2 IP to date. His command needs some work, as he has allowed five free passes in his two starts, inflating his WHIP (1.34). This matchup, while on the road where he has struggled over the past couple of seasons, is against a team that is struggling to open the campaign with the Twins on tap here in this game.
Andre Pallante, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Houston Astros
Pallante racked up six Ks over his limited 4.1 IP against the host Red Sox, and is essentially striking out a batter per frame to open up 2025. He gets to face a free-swinging Astro offense so should build on his strikeout numbers, and gets the added boost of facing Houston at home.
Tyler Mahle, Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels
The veteran righty has picked up two consecutive victories, and also had a strong QS against the Cubs during his last time toeing the rubber. He has been stingy in allowing baserunners over his last two appearances, with just three hits and walks over those 12.0 IP. His team has been extremely good at home to begin 2025, too, another factor in his favor for this streaming option.
Osvaldo Bido Sacramento Athletics at Chicago White Sox
The third-year righthander sports an attractive 3.00 ERA over his 15.0 IP, but has allowed too many hitters to reach base (18 hits, six walks), which has resulted in an ugly 1.60 WHIP. His 14:6 K/BB ratio demonstrates potential value, and this is the best matchup a SP could ask for as the White Sox continue their 2024 futility on the diamond this season, too.
Michael Lorenzen, Kansas City Royals at Detroit Tigers
The veteran hurler picked up a QS and victory over the visiting Twins in his most recent time atop the bump, and dropped his ratios into attractive range by allowing just a single earned tally on five hits and zero walks: 3.18 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He will be coming off a road game in New York against the Yankees and this matchup is also on the road against the resilient Tiger offense who are playing well at Comerica Park early this year, so not the greatest streaming matchup, honestly, but likely a decent (not great, admittedly) source of Ks.
JP Sears, Athletics at Chicago White Sox
Sears collected his second QS in two attempts to open the season, holding the Colorado hitters to three earned tallies on six hits over 6.1 IP. He only collected a pair of Ks, after racking up seven against the Mariners in his first outing. He has a tremendous matchup here, facing the Pale Hose, who are last in all of the MLB in total bases as of the writing of this article.
Andrew Heaney, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals
The veteran southpaw has allowed just two earned runs over his two starts (12.0 IP), while fanning a batter per inning. He owns an excellent pair of ratio stats: 1.50 ERA, 0.92 WHIP. He has had two no decisions on the campaign, but did at least pick up a QS in this last time atop the hill.
Jack Kochanowicz, Los Angeles Angels at Texas Rangers
The second-year righty has been tagged for three dingers to begin the 2025 season, after yielding just seven in his rookie campaign over 65.1 IP, which is a concern. The balance of his results, a 3.27 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, with eight Ks over his 11.0 IP are worthy of placing him in your pitching rotation for a streaming start…or more, depending on his results going forward.
Cade Povich, Baltimore Orioles vs. Cleveland Guardians
Despite yielding 12 hits over 6.0 IP in Kansas City, he was only touched for one earned run (four total). His peripheral metrics-1.26 FIP (vs 3.48 ERA) and .529 BABIP (!)-hint that he may simply be suffering some terrible luck and that things will regulate soon.
Martin Perez, Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox
The veteran southpaw has been credited with two QS in his two times scrapping the slab this season, and has allowed just one earned tally over those 12.1 IP. He is averaging better than a K per inning, although his control certainly could use some adjustments as he has handed out five walks over his two starts. He has not demonstrated great pitching skills when on the road over the past couple of seasons, so be ready for his stock to fall after this outing, perhaps.
Chad Patrick, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Athletics
The rookie has been extraordinarily effective in his two starts in 2025, allowing just a single earned run over those 10.0 IP. He has also managed to strike out 10 hitters in the early action, but his control is a concern with his 5.7 BB/9 rate. He has been successful when on the bump at home, and that is where this contest will take place.
Kyle Hendricks, Los Angeles Angels vs. San Francisco Giants
Two hits and two walks over 5.0 IP made for an effective outing, albeit one that led to no decision for the veteran Angel righty. In his first two starts for his new team, he has collected a QS and now displays a useful 1.64 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, which is sure to push his ownership percentage up if that production continues. He continues to be a below-average strikeout fabricator, but is showing off some elite control with a stellar 1.6 BB/9 ratio.
Easton Lucas, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners
The rookie lefty (based on his limited IP over the past three seasons) has accumulated two victories in his first two starts this season, allowing zero runs, earned or not, over his 10.1 IP. No runs results in a 0.00 ERA although his four hits and three walks allowed does “blemish” his WHIP: 0.68. He has the Mariners at his home park, which is another factor in his favor. Grab him and hope for continued success on the hill.
Hayden Wesneski, Houston Astros vs. San Diego Padres
Facing the Padres is not ideal, but he does get to pitch at home in this contest. Over his first two times on the bump, he has a 11:3 K/BB ratio and after his two run, 7.0 IP effort against the host Mariners, his ERA is a useful 3.75 ERA and the WHIP is a stellar 0.67. Be careful, if you rely on him to continue as a streaming option here, as his peripheral metrics hint as some negative regression in his future: 4.33 FIP, .107 BABIP.
Player News
Cubs re-signed RHP Caleb Kilian to a minor league contract.
The 27-year-old hurler was released last weekend after being designated for assignment, but after exploring the open market he has decided that a reunion with the Cubs made the most sense. Kilian will continue to function as extra rotation depth at Triple-A Iowa for the time being.
Corey Seager went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk to help the Rangers take down the Angels 5-3 on Thursday.
Seager had a bad first week and a half while dealing with a calf strain, but he’s collected 14 hits, including three homers, in his last eight games, putting him at .306/.368/.516 overall. Alas, it’s produced just six RBI, mostly because the Rangers are getting terrible production from the ninth and first spots in the order.
Kumar Rocker recorded his first MLB victory after pitching seven innings of three-run ball and striking out eight Thursday against the Angels.
Rocker walked none and surrendered just one double and four singles. Unfortunately, all five hits came in the first and fifth innings, resulting in three runs between them. Still, Rocker was terrific in needing just 78 pitches to get 21 outs. It’s the kind of performance that suggests he might offer mixed-league value at some point. We just wouldn’t trust him quite yet. His next start will come in Sacramento against the A’s.
Robert Garcia picked up his first save of the year with a perfect ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Garcia got the call tonight with Luke Jackson having pitched the previous two days and retired the Angels on five pitches. Even though he’s the better reliever of the two, he’ll likely resume taking a backseat to Jackson on Friday.
Jack Kochanowicz gave up four runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Rangers on Thursday.
The surprising and misguided decision to pick Kochanowicz over Reid Detmers for a rotation spot at the end of the spring isn’t working out for the Angels. The team might reverse course soon, but Detmers hasn’t been used as a long guy and isn’t stretched out to start right away. Kochanowicz is now 1-2 with a 6.20 ERA, but at least he gets the Pirates next.
Joc Pederson went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Thursday, dropping his average to .060.
It’s mostly been hard grounders and routine flies from Pederson thus far, but given that his bat speed is unchanged from last year, we don’t have big concerns here yet. That said, this might not be the weekend he turns it around, given that the Rangers are set to face the Dodgers.
