Eagles signed C Cam Jurgens to a four-year, $68 million extension.
Jurgens thrived in his first year as the replacement for future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce and has been handsomely rewarded for his efforts. The former second-round pick who is now the second-highest paid center in the league will get $39.4 million in guaranteed money on his new deal and is now under contract through 2029. Last season, Jurgens started in all 16 games he appeared in and earned his first Pro Bowl nod. He battled through a painful back injury throughout the postseason that required surgery to correct, but played at a high level on the way to helping the Eagles win their second Super Bowl in eight seasons. Jurgens has one year remaining on his rookie deal, meaning his new contract won’t fully kick in until next season.
Jets GM Darren Mougey says the team will exercise the fifth-year option on Jermaine Johnson.
Johnson was one of three players drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Florida State star has totaled 10 sacks in his first three seasons, although it’s worth noting he lost virtually all of his 2024 season (15 games) when he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2. Johnson has already said he would be ready for team OTAs and will have much to prove in 2025 beyond showing he is fully recovered from his injury. He’ll be learning a new defense under head coach Aaron Glenn and will need to attempt to build on the 7.5 sacks he posted in 2023 as a full-time starter.
Jets GM Darren Mougey says the team will exercise the fifth-year option on Garrett Wilson.
Brandon Drury went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
The White Sox needed a backup infielder with Chase Meidroth landing on the IL, but they opted for Bobby Dalbec instead of Drury. Perhaps that should tell us that Meidroth won’t be out for a long time, but it also tells us that they’re not ready to move on from any of their active infielders to call up the 32-year-old Drury. It could happen in the next month or so though.
Jets GM Darren Mougey says the team will exercise the fifth-year option on Sauce Gardner.
Mets RHP prospect Blade Tidwell struck out nine batters in 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
He also allowed only two hits and walked one on the day, but those strikeouts led him to throw 74 pitches in a little over four innings before being removed from the game. He rode his four-seam fastball and sweeper to much success on Sunday with 15 swing and misses, and eight of those coming on his sweeper. The 23-year-old has 28 strikeouts in 22 1/2 innings this season and could get a shot with the Mets sometime later this season if they need another arm in the rotation.
