JP Sears allowed four runs over four innings in a loss to the Giants on Friday.
All of the damage came on one hit, but that one hit was a grand slam which literally automatically disqualifies you from a quality start. The southpaw allowed six hits overall while walking three and striking out two. Even with the shaky start, Sears still has a solid 3.31 ERA, and will get a chance to rebounds against the Angels next week.

Sears did a great job holding the Yankees offense at bay on a hot Saturday afternoon in Sacramento. The only damage against him came on a solo home run by Aaron Judge in the fourth inning. Sears scattered three other hits and one walk while striking out four. It was hit fifth consecutive start allowing two earned runs or less. The 29-year-old left-hander will take a 2.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 36/7 K/BB ratio across 45 innings into a start against the Giants in San Francisco on Friday.

Sears struck out two and didn’t walk a batter while posting a 12 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. Sears has raised his arm angle this year, which has altered the shapes of his arsenal a little bit and has been a major part of his 2.93 ERA on the season. Sears didn’t miss many bats on Sunday, but he pounded the strike zone with his sweeper against a mediocre offense. Sears will be much tougher to trust next week against the Yankees.
