Ben Lively pitched four-hit ball for 5 1/3 innings and combined with four Guardians relievers on a 3-0 shutout of the Pirates on Saturday.
Cade Smith, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Emmanuel Clase finished the six-hitter. Lively struck out three and walked one in his first win of the year. He’ll take a 3.86 ERA into his next start at home against the Red Sox.
Ben Lively allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.
Lively was able to pitch out of trouble in the first few innings, but he gave up a homer to Sal Perez in the fourth and a two-run double to Maikel Garcia in the fifth that led to Kansas City’s runs. Lively did post a solid 25 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW thanks, mostly, to his sinker, but he remains on the deep-league streaming radar next week against the Pirates.
Ben Lively pitched five innings before being lifted from a scoreless tie Tuesday against the White Sox.
Lively walked three batters, but the White Sox never capitalized in coming up with only a pair of singles against him. He lowered his ERA to 4.40 in advance of Sunday’s start against the Royals. Lively already faced Kansas City on Opening Day (on short notice due to Tanner Bibee’s food poisoning) and gave up three runs in five innings in a no-decision then.
Ben Lively allowed four runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Padres.
