Lane Thomas (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
There doesn’t appear to be any sort of urgency for Cleveland with Angel Martinez hitting .500 (5-for-10) in three games since returning to the majors. Thomas will sit out his sixth straight game on Tuesday night and at this point it doesn’t make a ton of sense to send him to the injured list.
Ben Lively allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.
Lively was able to pitch out of trouble in the first few innings, but he gave up a homer to Sal Perez in the fourth and a two-run double to Maikel Garcia in the fifth that led to Kansas City’s runs. Lively did post a solid 25 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW thanks, mostly, to his sinker, but he remains on the deep-league streaming radar next week against the Pirates.
Lane Thomas (wrist) remains out of the lineup on Sunday for the fifth straight game.
It’s impossible to rule out a potential IL stint for Thomas as he remains out of Cleveland’s lineup for the fifth consecutive contest with a right wrist contusion. It’ll be red-hot Angel Martinez in center field for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals with lefty Cole Ragans on the mound.
Gabriel Arias went 2-for-3, homered in a second straight game and walked Saturday in the Guardians’ 6-3 defeat of the Royals.
Arias’s OPS is up nearly 300 points (.589 to .878) the last two days. He still hasn’t demonstrated much ability to hit for average, and he’s only a modest steal threat, so it wouldn’t seem to be time to pick him up in mixed leagues. Still, the Guardians will take what they can get after declining to sign a veteran stopgap for second base over the winter.
