NFL DFS Week 2 QB Coach: Lamar Jackson, Jayden Daniels & Justin Fields
Published: Sep 11, 2024
NFL Week 2 is here already as we look to build upon a successful and profitable Week 1 of the NFL DFS season.
This week, we once again look to take advantage of some top matchups for our NFL DFS Week 2 QB coach as I bring you my NFL DFS Week 2 QB coach top targets, values and fades to build your lineups around this weekend.
But, before we dive into our NFL DFS Week 2 QB coach article let us first take a look back at how we did in Week 1.
NFL DFS Week 1 QB Coach Recap
Player | Pts | $/K | Post | Value | Tier | Pos Finish |
32.18 | 8 | QB | 4.0 | Top | 1 | |
18.66 | 7.5 | QB | 2.5 | Top | 8 | |
21.62 | 7 | QB | 3.1 | Top | 5 | |
27.08 | 6.3 | QB | 4.3 | Mid | 4 | |
11.28 | 6.2 | QB | 1.8 | Mid | 17 | |
8.2 | 6.1 | QB | 1.3 | Mid | 21 | |
7.22 | 5.9 | QB | 1.2 | Value | 24 | |
28.16 | 5.7 | QB | 4.9 | Value | 3 | |
29.66 | 5.6 | QB | 5.3 | Value | 2 | |
11.46 | 7.1 | QB | 1.6 | Fade | 16 | |
8.06 | 6.5 | QB | 1.2 | Fade | 22 |
As you can see from the grid above, we had the TOP FIVE scoring quarterbacks in last week's QB coach which includes the QB2 and QB3 in the value tier section with Baker Mayfield and Jayden Daniels really exceeding value in their matchups as Mayfield picked apart the Washington Commanders defense on his way to four touchdown passes and on the flip side of that matchup we saw Daniels use his legs to rush for 88 yards and two scores.
We also had the QB1 and QB5 in our top tier section as Josh Allen used his legs to beat the Arizona Cardinals and Tua Tagovailoa connected with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to be the weeks leading passer.
Anthony Richardson continued to be a DFS darling, finishing as the QB4 overall, thanks again to his elite rushing upside.
Our Fades section also smashed as Dak Prescott and Joe Burrow finished as QB16 and QB22 respectively in their matchups against the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots.
For all the good, there was also some bad with Trevor Lawrence, Kirk Cousins and Caleb Williams really struggling in Week 1 as they finished as the QB17, QB21 and QB24 overall.
C.J. Stroud was good, not great. He finished as the QB8 overall and likely could have had some bigger opportunities if not for the fact that Joe Mixon was absolutely tearing it up against the Colts that they didn't need Stroud to be the one to carry the offense down the stretch.
NFL DFS Week 2 QB Coach For FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy
When looking at the NFL DFS QB Coach for Week 2 there are going to be some similar names that we see this week that were in last week's QB Coach as the schedule makers have put out some really good matchups for us to take advantage of this weekend, especially given the current projected game totals for a few of these matchups which suggests there are going to be plenty of points scored here in DFS this week.
NFL DFS QB Top-Tier Picks For Week 2
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens - DraftKings: $7,700 | FanDuel: $8,800
What wasn't there to like about Jackson in his Week 1 performance against the Chiefs? The Ravens QB threw for 273 yards and a touchdown while adding 122 yards rushing on the ground.
In Week 2 he has a home matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, a defense that didn't show too much against the Chargers last week to make me think they are slowing down this Ravens offense, on the road in Week 2.
My LONE worry with Jackson this week would be the point spread as the Ravens are 9.5-point home favorites and if Jackson doesn't get the early scoring then we could be in for a long day of Derrick Henry running out the clock.
Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts - DraftKings: $6,800 | FanDuel: $8,500
Richardson left A LOT of big plays on the field last week against the Texans, missing Adonai Mitchell twice downfield on what could have resulted in big touchdown plays. That said, he did connect on two touchdowns with Alec Pierce and Ashton Dulin hauling in 60 and 54 yard touchdowns while he also added 56 yards rushing and another score.
Look, Richardson is not going to be a great passer, at least not right away, but we don't need him to be. We just need the rushing upside to stay consistent and for him to hit a big play in the passing game for him to pay off the value.
This week he draws an easier matchup, though on the road, against a Packers offense that is going to be rolling out Malik Willis at QB. This could lead to many offensive opportunities for Richardson to put up points if the Colts defense can turn the football over and shut down this Green Bay offense.
C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans - FanDuel: $8,200
For whatever reason this season FanDuel has decided to include the Sunday Night Football game on their main slate which means Stroud is in the player pool and boy does he have a matchup here this week.
Houston's home opener against a Bears defense that was honestly gifted plays by Will Levis last week but will not have that luxury here in Week 2.
Stroud connected with Nico Collins on big plays and threw two touchdown passes to their big offseason acquisition Stefon Diggs.
We should expect big things here from Stroud in Week 2.
NFL DFS QB Mid-Tier Picks For NFL Week 2
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders - DraftKings: $6,200 | FanDuel: $7,900
Far more expensive on FanDuel this week than DraftKings but he makes the QB Coach nonetheless as Daniels was everything we expected him to be in his NFL debut.
The rushing upside was on display as he ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns and probably should have made more plays in the passing game than he did yet he finished as the QB3 overall in DFS last week.
This week, he faces the New York Giants, a defense that let Sam Darnold make big plays against them last week at home and now the Giants go on the road for Daniels regular season home debut.
I'd expect to see more of the same from Daniels when it comes to his rushing upside and maybe he actually can connect with Terry McLaurin this week against the bad Giants secondary.
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions - DraftKings: $6,400 | FanDuel: $7,800
Goff certainly wasn't anything special in the team's Week 1 matchup against the Rams but they are home again for Week 2 and this time face a Buccaneers defense that is not expected to put up much of a fight when it comes to opposing passing attacks and that's where this spot is going to be interesting.
Vegas has set the game total over/under at 51.5 which is the highest on the slate and those who watched the Lions game on Sunday should be a bit more bullish on this passing offense due to the emergence of Jameson Williams who had five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Adding a big play receiver in Williams to a group of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta could give the Lions one of the best receiving units in all of football if Williams can get back to the player who had nearly 1600 yards and 15 touchdowns for Alabama in 2021 before being selected in the first round despite recovering from a torn ACL.
If this turns into a shootout, I can see more looking towards the Baker Mayfield side of this matchup which makes Goff a leverage play in GPP's and a great cash game option.
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers - DraftKings: $6,100 | FanDuel: $7,300
The 49ers didn't need to lean on Purdy in their Week 1 win over the Jets as Jordan Mason ran all over New York and put the 49ers offense in position to score and kick field goals which they did as both Mason and Deebo Samuel ran for touchdowns while kicker Jake Moody knocked down six field goals.
In Week 2 the 49ers are on the road against a Vikings team that shutdown Daniel Jones and the Giants offense but I do not expect to see a repeat performance of that this week and in fact, I'd be willing to bet on Purdy making more plays in the teams passing game here against a Vikings secondary that is not expected to be the strong point of their defense this week.
Yes, Christian McCaffrey is not expected to play, and he is a big part of the passing attack but Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Juwan Jennings and George Kittle should be able to get open here and a two-touchdown performance from Purdy should not be out of the question.
NFL Week 2 DFS QB Value Picks
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DraftKings: $5,900 | FanDuel: $7,400
The disrespect here is real huh? Mayfield was the QB2 overall in DFS last week and now is involved in a game with a slate high 51.5 game total yet his doesn't even break into the $6,000 range on DraftKings.
We loved the Buccaneers passing upside in Week 1 against the Commanders and it did not disappoint as Baker threw four touchdown passes with two going to Mike Evans and one going to Chris Godwin.
This should be a sign of things to come for the Buccaneers this season with new offensive coordinator Liam Coen who wants to push the ball downfield.
In Week 2 the Buccaneers are on the road, a slight concern, but face a Lions defense that still gives up plenty of plays in the passing game.
As long as the Tampa offensive line can hold up against this elite Lions pass rush we should be in for another big game from both Mayfield and his top two wide receivers.
Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers - DraftKings: $5,400 | FanDuel: $7,000
Big time boom or bust play here. We know Fields can go out there against Denver this weekend and run for 100+ yards and a touchdown and break the slate at his price tag, especially on DraftKings.
We also know he can go out there, throw for 120 yards with multiple turnovers and sink our lineups.
The Broncos defense looked solid last week against the Seahawks but they got gashed on the ground by Kenneth Walker and this Steelers offense is going to look to run the ball while taking big play shots downfield to George Pickens.
Naturally this is a GPP-only play this week.
NFL DFS QB Fades For Week 2
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints - DraftKings: $5,300 | FanDuel: $7,200
Yes, the Saints put up a whole lot of points in Week 1 but they faced a pretty terrible Carolina Panthers team at home.
They now travel on the road to face a really good Dallas Cowboys defense that not only gets after the QB but forces a lot of turnovers as well.
I'm fine with Carr in the right matchups this season but this week will not be one of them.
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals - DraftKings: $6,300 | FanDuel: $7,400
I had Burrow in the Fades section last week and that was the correct pick even if it ended up being for completely different reasons.
The Patriots defense swarmed the Bengals, getting after Burrow often and forcing turnovers all over the field.
Ja'Marr Chase did not look ready to play and Burrow himself was see often flexing his wrist on his throwing hand.
Chris Jones and the Chiefs defense is not going to be much of an easier matchup than they just had and now with the Bengals on the road this spot is just a big no go for me.
NFL Week 2 QB Play Of The Week
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs - DraftKings: $7,000 | FanDuel: $8,700
In Week 1 against a good Ravens defense Mahomes completed 71.4% of his passes for 291 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The fantasy points were ultimately a bit pedestrian as he finished with just 16.14 points but a Week 2 home matchup against the Bengals with a 47.5 game total has me in on Mahomes this week.
The Patriots offense had no trouble moving the football against the Bengals and we saw that rookie Xavier Worthy is an explosive playmaker for the Chiefs while Rashee Rice had over 100-yards receiving and Travis Kelce was barely a factor.
This game, to me, has the feelings of Mahomes with three or more passing touchdowns as the Chiefs just move the ball down field at will here in Week 2.
