Texans signed CB/S Jalen Pitre to a three-year, $39 million extension.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the deal has $29.156 million in guarantees. Pitre missed the back half of last season with a pectoral tear, but excelled in his new role as Texans nickel corner with a career-best 71.3 PFF coverage grade. This isn’t a needle-moving re-signing, but clearly Houston valued their slot corner highly to get this done ahead of the draft. Pitre was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2025.
Texans signed LB E.J. Speed, formerly of the Colts, to a one-year, $5 million contract.
The deal comes with a $1.75 million signing bonus, $1.5 million guaranteed, $1.5 million in playtime incentives, and a $500,000 Pro Bowl escalator. Speed set a career high in tackles in 2024 with 142, including seven tackles for loss and five pass break ups. He’ll bolster an aggressive Texans linebacking corps after spending the first six years of his NFL career with the Colts.
Texans signed OT Trent Brown, formerly of the Bengals, to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Brown must recover from a season-ending knee injury suffered on September 23rd, 2024. Assuming he can return to form, though, this is a great signing for the Texans. Brown is an extremely accomplished offensive tackle, with 3,005 snaps logged at left tackle and another 1,579 at right tackle. He can play effectively both as in pass protection and as a run blocker.
Texans rework Denico Autry’s contract, gain cap space for 2025.
The 34-year old veteran defensive end was set to make a total of $9 million in the second year of a two-year deal he signed in 2024. The reworked contract converts a portion of that salary to a signing bonus. Autry will now make $7.5 million in total pay this season. Autry has $1 million available in per-game roster bonuses. The deal will save the Texans nearly $4 million in cap space. A six-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug policy violation limited Autry’s availability in 2024. He had 13 tackles and 3 sacks in 10 regular season games and added a sack in the playoffs.
