Patriots did not exercise the OL Cole Strange’s fifth-year team option for 2026.

The move, or lack thereof, doesn’t come as a surprise. Strange was a stunning first-round selection by Bill Belichick in 2022, with Sean McVay saying he thought the Rams would have a shot at landing Strange with the 104th pick. Strange suffered a torn patellar tendon late in the 2023 season that cost him most of 2024. A left guard by trade, Strange made two starts at center last year. A replacement-level player at best, Strange enters his contract year in need of a breakout season.

Patriots GM Eliot Wolf said the team sees TreVeyon Henderson as “a three-down back and a really good compliment.”

That’s right, it’s quote that amounts to the one side facing the mountains in the air, the other facing a wall on opposite sides of the bus meme. We’re more interested to see what Mike Vrabel says about Henderson — he’s gonna divvy up the playing time — but he didn’t have a press availability after Day 2 or Day 3 of the draft. We’d tentatively expect Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson to split the load early in the season. What happens from there is probably more about the results than anything. Henderson probably belongs in the top-75 of drafts on perceived upside, but we’d love to see a quote from Vrabel about his role.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss believes Ja’Lynn Polk is not guaranteed a role in New England.

Reiss stacks Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, and third-round pick Kyle Williams as the top of the projected wideout depth chart. That leaves one or two spots for Polk, fellow second-year player Javon Baker, Kayshon Boutte and Kendrick Bourne. Revamping the wideout room this offseason has left any non-Douglas 2023 Patriots receiver as a risky hold in dynasty leagues.

Patriots signed TE CJ Dippre.

Dippre (6’5/256) is an athletic pass-catcher with strong blocking and special teams experience. He began his career at Maryland, tallying 30 receptions for 314 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore, all college career-highs. Transferring to Alabama for his final two seasons, Dippre was an effective blocker for Jalen Milroe and the Crimson Tide backfield. He went to the Senior Bowl and ran a 4.69s 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, No. 3 among tight ends. Dippre can contribute as both a receiver and blocker, though he won’t lead a tight end room at the next level. His experience in kick and punt return coverage could earn him a chance on a roster.
