2024 Player Outlook

After two years of injuries and middling quarterback play, Nico Collins blew up in 2023 with CJ Stroud. He finished as a WR1 in fantasy despite missing two games with injury (marking three straight years now that he has missed time). The Texans gave him a three year, $72.5 million extension as a reward. As a big split end, his snap count should be safe for 2024 but the addition of Stefon Diggs to go along with Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz, and Joe Mixon could dilute the targets to some degree.

Nico Collins caught 5-of-8 targets for 81 yards in the Texans’ Divisional Round loss to the Chiefs.

As was the case all season long, Collins was a rare Texan who was never part of the problem on Saturday. Of course, it was a big problem when Collins missed Weeks 6-10 with a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old now has a concerning history of lower-body muscle issues. Then again, not even that could stop him from surpassing 1,000 yards in only 12 games played. Collins confirmed his 2023 was every bit a genuine breakout and the furthest thing from a fluke. A 6-foot-4 sideline dominator in an era of tiny YAC merchants, Collins can also do major damage over the middle of the field. He is unquestionably one of the league’s 4-5 best wideouts. Now he just needs to figure out how to keep his leg muscles healthy.

Nico Collins caught 7-of-8 targets for 122 yards and a touchdown in the Texans’ Wild Card Round win against the Chargers.

Collins, who tied John Metchie for the team lead in targets, caugh Houston’s lone passing score on an inside-the-ten slant from C.J. Stroud in the first half. Collins also had a 41-yard grab against a Chargers coverage unit that has been stingy for much of the season. Houston’s sputtering offense is going to have to run through Collins if the Texans are going to make a deep postseason run. OC Bobby Slowik’s refusal to go pass heavy means Collins’ opportunities could be limited in any game script, however.

Nico Collins caught 5-of-5 targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in Houston’s Week 18 win over the Titans.

The Titans managed to leave Collins wide open in the end zone on Houston’s first drive, and though Collins had a few catches on the second drive, he was soon put on ice with 11 offensive snaps. Collins finishes the regular season with a 68/1,006/7 receiving line despite playing just 12 games. He’ll be the focal point of Houston’s offense in the playoffs, though it’s possible the Steelers or Chargers game plan to stop him in a way that makes his fantasy line suffer.

Nico Collins caught 3-of-6 targets for 59 yards in the Texans’ Week 17 loss to the Ravens.

Collins erupted for 119 yards versus the Jags in Week 13 but has been quiet ever since. He has 136 yards in his subsequent three games. John Metchie led the Texans in targets this week with eight looks, though that likely speaks to just how dysfunctional the team was versus a superior Baltimore squad. Collins gets the Titans in Week 18. He went for 92 yards and a touchdown when the teams last faced in Week 12. Houston has nothing left to play for with the AFC South title already in hand, so fantasy managers with stake in the final game of the year will want to make sure Houston is playing their starters before rolling out Collins as a WR1 next week.
