2024 Player Outlook

Another just relatively underwhelming season from Lawrence who entered the year with some hype after with the return of Calvin Ridley following his year suspension but instead what we got was a lot of inconsistent play which led him to completing with 65.6% of his passes for 4,016 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. What helped save his season from being a complete fantasy disaster was the slight rushing numbers where he ran for 339 yards and four scores. What to expect from Lawrence in 2024? While we would like to think he takes a step forward with the Jaguars drafting Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round and signing Gabe Davis in free agency to go along with Christian Kirk and Evan Engram, I'm not longer betting on the breakout. Lawrence is a high-end QB2 with obvious upside if he can ever reach the ceiling of his potential.

Trevor Lawrence (shoulder) said he will throw on a limited basis in OTAs.

Lawrence told reporters he is “very optimistic” he will be fully ready for the start of the season. He is still recovering from the surgery he underwent on his non-throwing shoulder in December. Lawrence recently shed his sling and began throwing. He noted that he has been working with head coach Liam Coen to improve his footwork to fit the timing of Coen’s offense. It sounds like he’ll be brought back from the shoulder injury slowly, limiting his reps while learning a new offense once again. Coen’s scheme will be Lawrence’s third offense in five years with the Jags. Backup quarterback Nick Mullens will see some extra reps with the starters early in the offseason program.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reports “the Steelers did not call the Jaguars about Trevor Lawrence.”

According to Florio, this news comes from a source with “direct knowledge of the situation.” Reports of the Steelers reaching out to the Jaguars surfaced last Thursday, but little news has materialized on the topic since. Days after the Jaguars said any notion of trading Lawrence was “ridiculous,” Florio’s report eliminates any possibility that a call was ever made. Regardless, the Jaguars seem intent on staying with Lawrence, which makes sense from an organizational team point and a financial one, as a trade of Lawrence would result in a $100 million dead cap hit while also costing them $83 million against the cap, . It’s probably safe to assume this is the last we hear of this story.

ESPN’s Michael DiRocco reports the Jaguars called any rumors of a Trevor Lawrence trade “ridiculous.”

The Jaguars added that there was “no chance” they would consider trading Lawerence. These comments were spurred by a report earlier in the day that said the Steelers reached out to the Jaguars inquiring about a potential trade for the fifth-year signal-caller. While anything remains possible, the idea of the Jaguars trading Lawrence seems highly unlikely given that he was just signed to an extension last offseason. The Steelers need help at quarterback, with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both set to hit free agency, but early reports are they will attempt to re-sign one of the vets this offseason.

Big 10 Network’s Ryan Burr reports the Steelers “made inquiries” to the Jaguars about trading for Trevor Lawrence.

We’ll see where this one goes, but it’s certainly out of left field. The Jaguars signed Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million contract extension last offseason, and in his introductory press conference, head coach Liam Coen suggested the offense “will be all about Trevor.” There don’t seem to be any signs pointing to the Jaguars’ interest in trading Lawrence, but it’s possible the Steelers were doing their due diligence in reaching out to teams they thought may be willing to make a deal. Lawrence has a no-trade clause baked into his extension, so any trade would need to be approved by the former No. 1 pick.
