2024 Player Outlook
When you have the leagues best receiver sometimes your job is easy and Dak Prescott benefited big time from getting to throw the ball to CeeDee Lamb in 2023 as he put together one of the best seasons of his career. Prescott completed a career best 69.5% of his passes for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns last year which was good enough for him to finish as QB5 in point per game scoring. When it comes to the 2024 season we kinda know what to expect from Prescott. His ceiling is that of a fringe top-5 QB and more than likely will setting into the top-10 QB range. Their passing offense won't change all that much with CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks and Jake Ferguson as the primary pass catchers. Prescott is great safe QB pick in your drafts.
Player News
The Dallas Morning News reports that Dak Prescott (hamstring) will be a limited participant when the Cowboys begin voluntary workouts on Monday.
On Saturday, Prescott declared that he “could play today” if he had to, now four months removed from hamstring surgery. Monday’s workouts should provide clarity as to the comment’s veracity. New head coach Brian Schottenheimer could have begun voluntary workouts last week, an opportunity shared by all first-year head coaches, but Schotty instead chose to delay the process. Doing so, perhaps, to provide his quarterback with an extra week of prep time—or, maybe, it was to give the front office one last chance to sign Micah Parsons to a record-setting megadeal before team activities begin. Fantasy managers, stay tuned.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he “could play today” if he had to.
That’s now consecutive positive reports on the Cowboys’ franchise quarterback after he tore his hamstring last season. While the efficacy of his words could be questioned considering he is now four months removed from major surgery on a primary muscle, Cowboys fans and fantasy managers alike welcome the continued positive news regarding his recovery outlook. All roads seem to be pointing to a return to the gridiron at some point this offseason.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Dak Prescott is “doing great” in his recovery from hamstring surgery.
Jones added that the team is “very thrilled” about Prescott’s rehab but noted that the franchise quarterback will have “some limitations” throughout their offseason programs. Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 and underwent surgery to correct the issue. He threw for 1,978-11-8 in the nine games he did appear in last season while completing just 64.7 percent of his passes — his lowest mark since 2017. Prescott and the Cowboys offense struggled mightily last season due in part to a running game that was non-existent for a large portion of the year. First-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer will hope that a new-look backfield can take some pressure off the passing game this upcoming season, but there’s still work to be done behind free-agent signees Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. As far as Prescott being ready for the start of the season is concerned, it sounds as if he’s well on his way.
Cowboys restructured Dak Prescott’s contract.
The move clears up $36.6 million in cap space. Dallas just did the same with CeeDee Lamb’s deal, freeing up another $20 million. For players still in their prime, these are standard moves to create cap space. Prescott remains under contract through the 2028 season. Even though Stephen and Jerry Jones have both sounded rather conservative when talking about the team’s plans in free agency, their newfound cap space gives them some room for a few key additions. Adding a true No. 2 receiver to the mix will be one of the team’s top priorities between free agency and the draft.
