NFL DFS Week 5 WR Coach For FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy

While diving into the wide receiver landscape for this NFL DFS Week 5 WR Coach, I found myself loving the mid-tier of wide receivers. Sure, there are some expensive, luxury receivers that I like, but a lot of my favorite plays are a step or two below that top tier.

Based on some early builds I have done here, I’ve gravitated towards multiple receivers in the third or fourth tier, compared to forcing one of the Tier 1 receivers into my lineup. For example, on DraftKings, I liked my builds where I have not one, not two, but three sub-$7K receivers.

If I’m paying up, I’m looking towards DK Metcalf, Ja'Marr Chase, or Nico Collins, but that $5,800-$6,900 range on DraftKings is loaded with great DFS options.

NFL Week 5 Wide Receivers

On top of your usual primetime games that aren’t on the main slate, we also have a game in London that takes the Jets and Vikings away from us, and the bye weeks are here, so we see four teams (Lions, Chargers, Eagles, and Titans) on bye.

However, we still have some exciting games on the main slate, including some potential shootouts in Cincinnati, Houston, Los Angeles, and maybe San Francisco. On the other hand, there are some potential clunkers in New England and Denver, so we won’t be targeting too much from those games on the wide receiver front.

There are a few situations that this NFL DFS Week 5 WR Coach will be watching, like who starts under center for the Colts, Davante Adams trade request fallout, and more!

NFL DFS WR Coach Week 5 Results

From the top tier picks last week, the injury to Rashee Rice hurt many of us, but Marvin Harrison, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson all found the end zone. In the mid-tier, George Pickens, Rashid Shaheed, and Diontae Johnson provided excellent return on investment, while Chris Godwin underwhelmed slightly with just 12.9 PPR points.

The value tier had some duds, namely Rome Odunze and Luke McCaffrey, but Brian Thomas was magnificent in a Week 4 loss to the Texans. Fading Garrett Wilson turned out to be wise at his price point, and my play of the week, Nico Collins, was spot on, as he was the top scorer at the position!

NFL DFS WR Top Tier Picks For Week 5

DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks - DraftKings: $7,000 | FanDuel: $8,200

We love our perimeter receivers against the Giants, and Metcalf will be our cup of tea this week. Since his quiet Week 1 outing, Metcalf has 100+ yards in three straight games, and he should feast on a New York defense that likes to play a good bit of man coverage.

Per Pro Football Focus, Metcalf posted over 14 yards per reception and 2.38 yards per route run against man coverage last season, both of which were top 25 in the NFL amongst receivers with at least 10 targets against man coverage.

Metcalf is the top dog in this Seattle passing attack, and Geno Smith has at least 34 pass attempts in three straight games, so if that streak continues, Metcalf should put forth a big day.

Nico Collins, Houston Texans - DraftKings: $7,700 | FanDuel: $8,800

It’s not the greatest matchup for Collins, but in a game where Houston could struggle to slow down the Buffalo offense, there should be plenty of passing volume on the Houston side.

This game will be at NRG Stadium, and as we discussed last week, C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins have been money at home. Dating back to the beginning of last season, Collins has averaged 6.25 receptions for 99.3 yards and 0.75 receiving touchdowns per game.

He won’t have the best matchup on the field amongst the Houston wide receivers, as slot receivers have had more success against Buffalo this season, but Collins took a season-high 14 snaps out of the slot in Week 4, resulting in two receptions (two targets) and one touchdown.

Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens - DraftKings: $6,400 | FanDuel: $6,900

After seeing 21 targets through the first two weeks of the season, Flowers has just four receptions on six targets for 30 yards (with one carry for 3 yards) over the last two weeks. However, I’m not letting that scare me off Flowers this week against the Bengals, which is one of just two games on the main slate to open with a game total of at least 50 points.

Baltimore loves to try to get the ball into his hands, and he has a healthy first read rate (per Fantasy Points Data Suite). Flowers’ low aDOT archetype fits better with DraftKings’ PPR scoring framework, but I think he has an elevated ceiling in this matchup, and he has a good matchup, whether it be against Cam Taylor-Britt, or Mike Hilton in the slot.

Ja'Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals - DraftKings: $8,000 | FanDuel: $9,300

I looked at Andrei Iosivas, Cincy’s primary slot man, because you more so want slot receivers against Baltimore compared to perimeter receivers, but with Iosivas, unless he finds the end zone, there hasn’t been much there.

However, Chase has slate-breaking upside in any matchup, and he does travel into the slot on occasion. However, when he is on the perimeter, I expect the Bengals to get him lined up from Nate Wiggins as much as possible, as the rookie corner has allowed 75 percent of his targets to be caught for over 14 yards per reception and a 110.4 passer rating when targeted, per Pro Football Focus.

This is one of the higher game totals on the slate, and prior to Week 4 against Buffalo, Baltimore had allowed at least 25 points in each of the first three weeks.

NFL DFS WR Mid-Tier Picks For NFL Week 5

Jayden Reed, Green Bay Packers - DraftKings: $6,500 | FanDuel: $7,200

Reed has the highest ceiling amongst the Green Bay receivers, and we’re going to look to tap into that this week. The Rams have been more generous to perimeter receivers this year, but I’m not ignoring Reed because he primarily resides in the slot.

He has two games this year with 140+ total yards and a touchdown, and he’s coming off a massive game against the Vikings. The Rams have struggled with receivers this season, but outside of the Arizona game, they keep things close. Reed is a focal point of the offense, and he has a sky-high ceiling in a tasty matchup against L.A.

Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans - DraftKings: $6,900 | FanDuel: $7,600

C.J. Stroud has been far better at home than on the road thus far in his career, so we have that going for us in this one. Furthermore, Diggs has 21 targets over the last two weeks, resulting in 15 receptions for 163 yards, not to mention one rushing touchdown.

Of course, we have the revenge game narrative, but Buffalo’s primary slot corner, Cam Lewis,  has allowed the third-most yards in slot coverage, per Pro Football Focus, including a 113.3 passer rating when targeted and a reception percentage of 85.7 percent.

Houston’s defense has underperformed in recent weeks, and Buffalo may score at will, leading to increased passing volume for Stroud and Co.

DJ Moore, Chicago Bears  - DraftKings: $6,600 | FanDuel: $6,400

REVENGE GAME! Moore disappointed last week, but his touchdown helped save what would have been an otherwise disastrous day. However, Carolina has struggled to contain perimeter receivers, and Moore has only run a handful of routes from the slot through the first couple weeks of the season.

All the numbers point to a solid day from Moore, and if Carolina can continue to put points up on the board, we could get 33+ passing attempts from Williams, of which let’s hope for at least eight to go Moore’s way.

Brian Thomas, Jacksonville Jaguars - DraftKings: $5,900 | FanDuel: $6,300

Christian Kirk has seen a ton of targets lately, but Thomas has been the superior receiver against zone this year, and the Colts play a ton of it. Thomas leads the Jags’ receivers in targets, receptions, and yards against zone coverage in 2024, per PFF, while posting a healthy 2.86 yards per route run and 103.2 passer rating when targeted.

The Colts have allowed the SEVENTH-MOST fantasy points per game to receivers, and he’s seen 19 total opportunities (18 targets, one carry) over the last two weeks while holding a steady snap share.

NFL Week 5 DFS WR Value Picks

Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay Packers - DraftKings: $5,000 | FanDuel: $5,900

The injury to Christian Watson opens the door for Wicks, and on 13 targets last week, he caught five passes for 78 yards with two touchdowns. In Week 5, Wicks will see an increased snap share and role in the offense, and he finds himself in an advantageous spot against an underwhelming Los Angeles Rams secondary.

Wicks will have ample opportunities to win on the outside against the Rams, and while the passing volume for Green Bay won’t be as high this week compared to last, there’ll be enough chances for Wicks to provide a quality ROI, albeit likely at a relatively high ownership.

Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills - DraftKings: $4,700 | FanDuel: $5,400

After hardly seeing the field in Week 3, Coleman played 73 percent of the snaps in Week 4 against the Ravens, and actually tied Khalil Shakir for the second most routes run in that Week 4 matchup. Shakir has been ruled OUT for this matchup, opening the door for Coleman to play a big role in this potential shootout.

Sure, the overall production wasn’t there, but he did catch three of his four targets for 51 yards, and the conversation about him heading into Week 5 would be much different had he caught that deep ball from Allen. Perimeter receivers have had some success against Houston, and all year long, Houston has been vulnerable over the top.

So long as Buffalo puts him out on the field, he’ll have an advantageous matchup against this Houston secondary that ranks in the bottom-third of the league in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers.

Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals - DraftKings: $4,500 | FanDuel: $5,200

Dortch has been quiet the past couple of weeks, but I’m expecting some fireworks for him in Week 5. The 49ers have been one of the most generous defenses to slot receivers this year, and like many slot receivers before him this year, Dortch should exceed expectations in this matchup.

Dortch is the clear-cut slot receiver for the Cardinals, and while I won’t fault people for looking at Marvin Harrison, Dortch is the Arizona receiver that will have the best matchup on the field.

Tre Tucker, Las Vegas Raiders - DraftKings: $4,100 | FanDuel: $5,800

Sure, Davante Adams missed the team’s Week 4 game, but Tucker has a healthy 23.4 percent target share over the last two weeks, and they are scheming up plays to get him the ball.

His speed and explosion is unique amongst the Raiders’ receiving crew, and they’ve put it to use over the last two weeks, resulting in Tucker putting up 140 total yards and two scores over his last two contests.

You want to look at slot receivers against Denver, and Tucker has the same number of slot targets over the last three weeks as Meyers, per PFF. I don’t hate Meyers this week at all, but the cost savings to Tucker is too much to ignore.

Jerry Jeudy, Cleveland Browns - DraftKings: $5,200 | FanDuel: $5,900

You could also make the argument here for Amari Cooper, and I wouldn’t blame you, but the cost savings from Cooper to Jeudy is huge when building lineups this week. Jeudy has just as many red zone targets as Cooper does, and he’s averaging more fantasy points per game thus far.

He gets into the slot a bit more than Cooper does, and Washington has been vulnerable out of the slot this year. Take a look at the numbers below for Washington’s two primary slot corners, Mike Sainristil and Noah Igbinoghene:

  • Sainristil: Seven receptions on eight targets for 52 yards and 2 TDs (133.3 passer rating when targeted)
  • Igbinoghene: Seven receptions on 11 targets for 51 yards and 1 TD (104.7 passer rating when targeted)

Jeudy has at least six targets in every game this season, and the Washington secondary has, more often than not, been exactly what the doctor ordered for opposing offenses, especially through the air.

No team has allowed more fantasy points to wide receivers this year than the Washington Commanders, so take a chance on Jeudy, and if you have the money, you could move up to Cooper.

NFL DFS WR Fades For Week 5

Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins - DraftKings: $7,600 | FanDuel: $8,600

Until Tua Tagovailoa is back under center for the Dolphins, Hill is virtually unplayable. I mean, at a similar price point, you could have the likes of Ja'Marr Chase, Nico Collins, or DK Metcalf, all of whom have far better options delivering them the ball.

Mike McDaniel has yet to crack the code without his regular starter under center, and in each of the last three weeks, Hill has under 45 total yards in each game. Due to no fault of his own, he has no ceiling in the current state of affairs in Miami, and you simply cannot pay this price tag.

NFL Week 5 WR Play Of The Week

Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers - DraftKings: $6,800 | FanDuel: $8,000

When San Francisco’s opposition plays a lot of zone defense, you will want to look at Deebo Samuel before Brandon Aiyuk. Well, the Cardinals are playing a ton of zone this year, and Samuel leads the San Fran receivers in targets, receptions, and receiving yards against zone coverage this season, per Pro Football Focus.

In fact, using PFF’s receiving grade, he’s the top graded receiver against zone this season!  After missing the team’s Week 3 contest against the Rams, he returned in Week 4 to play 76 percent of the snaps, and turn three receptions and two carries into 72 total yards.

I love the matchup for Samuel this week against an Arizona defense that has allowed the 12th-most fantasy points to receivers this season.
