2024 Player Outlook

In Davante Adams fashion, he finished 2023 with 175 targets, the second most of any player. In non-Davante Adams fashion, he was only the WR10 in PPR despite that. Adams was slightly better in the games Aiden O'Connell started than the ones Jimmy Garoppolo started, averaging 16.2 PPR points per game vs. 14.8. So there's hope that either Gardner Minshew or AOC can improve the target quality slightly for Adams. The other question is whether Adams can keep the volume up at age 31 with the addition of rookie phenom Brock Bowers to go along with Jakobi Meyers. But it's hard to foresee him completely falling off without some kind of injury.

Rams signed WR Davante Adams, to a two-year, $46 million contract.

Adams gets the west coast destination he wanted, signing for $26 million guaranteed with the Rams, who are now more likely than ever to move on from Cooper Kupp. The 32-year-old started last season with the Raiders but was dealt to the Jets to play with Aaron Rodgers. Though it did not lead to much success for the Jets, Adams still had his fifth-straight 1,000-yard season, putting up 85/1,063/8 in 14 games played between Las Vegas and New York. He will now catch passes from Matthew Stafford, who once again has two elite receivers in his arsenal. Puka Nacua will be strong target competition for Adams; fantasy managers can expect Adams to still be in the WR2 mix for 2025.

Jets released WR Davante Adams.

Apparently nobody was biting on New York’s trade calls over the weekend. Adams’ release will free up roughly $30 million in cap space while leaving a $8 million dead money hit on the Jets’ books. Most of the speculation to date has been on Adams either joining forces with Aaron Rodgers in a new locale or returning the west coast. Adams becomes clearly the No. 1 wideout on the market even entering his age-33 season, coming off a 85/1063/8 season in 14 games split between the Raiders and Jets. There should be plenty of interest in his services, and because he was released, he will not count against the NFL’s compensatory draft pick formula for the signing team.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are “taking calls” on Davante Adams and “are expected to release” him if a deal fails to materialize.

The Jets stand to save nearly $29.888 million of Adams’ $38.25 million 2025 salary by either trading or releasing him before June 1st. The 32-year-old wide receiver remains efficient on a per-route basis, averaging 2.04 yards per route run last year. Still, his hefty salary looms large and it’s unclear as to whether he would strongly advocate for a reunion with Aaron Rodgers, if traded. At this point, a release seems most likely but adding a talented, veteran wide receiver is obviously desirable for a win-now team.

Jets GM Darren Mougey said “Davante is on the team right now” when asked about Davante Adams.

“Obviously we have a plan there. In the next few weeks we’ll address that issue,” Mougey continued. He may be on the team now, but it sure doesn’t look like the Jets plan to keep him on the team much longer. The Jets could be letting Adams find a trade partner to recoup some value from the 32-year-old, but otherwise it seems likely that he’ll get walking papers from the Jets despite a 85/1,063/8 receiving line in 14 games in 2024. Adams is not the same player he was four years ago, but he hasn’t lost enough steps to fall out of the No. 1 wideout conversation for most of the league just yet. He’s been rumored to want to go join a West Coast team.
