It’s Week seven of the 2023 MLB season and we have a whole new crop of fantasy baseball injuries to discuss, especially in the outfield. With these MLB injury updates, remember there are plenty of potential fantasy baseball sleepers to uncover on the fantasy baseball waiver wire and among MLB top prospects. Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager headlines this week's MLB injury news as he will be rising up fantasy baseball rankings and MLB projections soon enough. Tampa Bay Rays SS Wander Franco and New York Mets SP Max Scherzer are two of the notable additions to the MLB injury report this week. At least we have good news surrounding Aaron Judge as he returns to the New York Yankees outfield and our fantasy baseball lineups. Plus, the Houston Astros will need their starting pitching depth to step up as Luis Garcia and Jose Urquidy land on the fantasy baseball injury report. If you’ve invested in either Astros pitcher, you might want to look to make a fantasy baseball trade to secure your own pitching depth. When looking at who to start in your fantasy baseball lineups this week, here are the latest MLB injuries to take into consideration.

2023 Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report Week 7

Updated 5-12-2023

MLB Injury Updates Hitters

Corey Seager, SS, Texas Rangers (Hamstring)

Seager has been out for about a month now with his hamstring injury, but he could return to the Rangers lineup soon. The Texas shortstop will “probably” start a rehab assignment this week, according to manager Bruce Bochy. It might be another week or so until we get Seager fully back for fantasy baseball lineups, but at least this is good news that he's close to returning. Ezequiel Duran has been filling in at shortstop while Seager has been sidelined.

Wander Franco, SS, Tampa Bay Rays (Neck)

Franco was removed from his last game because of the pain that he was experiencing in his neck. Consider him day-to-day and we'll have to see if he's healthy enough to play in the Rays' next game.

Aaron Judge, OF, New York Yankees

Judge is back in the Yankees' lineup after previously dealing with a hip injury.

Nico Hoerner, 2B Chicago Cubs (Hamstring)

Hoerner has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury and he's sat out the Cubs' last couple of games. Nick Madrigal is filling in at second base while Hoerner has been out.

Eloy Jimenez, OF, Chicago White Sox (Appendectomy)

After having surgery, Jimenez is looking at an absence of at least four weeks. It would be surprising seeing him ready to return before the start of June. He may not be able to take the field until closer to the start of July, depending on his recovery.

Yoan Moncada, 3B, Chicago White Sox (Back)

Moncada has been out of the White Sox lineup for over a month, but reports say that he should be back in the field this weekend. He's been sidelined with an injured back.

Victor Robles, OF, Washington Nationals (Back)

Robles has been having pain in his back and he'll miss at least another week of action after being put on the Injured List. Stone Garrett and Jacob Alu can start in his place for Washington.

Jeimer Candelario, 3B, Washington Nationals (Ankle)

Candelario is day-to-day with an ankle injury, but it's possible that he still makes it into the Nationals lineup for their next game.

J.D. Martinez, UTIL, Los Angeles Dodgers (Back)

We’ve finally received positive news surrounding Martinez. His health is improving and if he doesn’t experience any setbacks with his back, Martinez could return to the lineup this weekend when the Dodgers battle the Padres.

Ramon Laureano, OF, Oakland Athletics (Concussion)

Laureano is dealing with a concussion and he's missed the A's last few games. While he's out, JJ Bleday and Brent Rooker will help in the outfield until Laureano is ready to return to the lineup.

Chas McCormick, OF, Houston Astros (Back)

McCormick has an injured back and he's been out for the last couple of games after just coming off the Injured List. Consider him day-to-day for now. He's played in just 12 games this season.

Mauricio Dubon, 2B, Houston Astros (Hamstring)

Dubon sat for the Astros last game with a tweaked hamstring and we'll have to see how healthy he is heading into his weekend series versus the White Sox. He's day-to-day.

Ramon Urias, 2B, Baltimore Orioles (Hamstring)

Urias has a strained hamstring and the Orioles placed him on the Injured List. We don't know when we should expect him back in the lineup, but reports are out that he may need at least a few weeks for his hamstring to recover.

Max Kepler, OF, Minnesota Twins (Leg)

Kepler could be dealing with minor leg pain after a cramp forced him out of the Twins' last game. We'll see if they give him the night off for their next game or if he'll try to play through the pain.

Chad Wallach, C, Los Angeles Angels (Concussion)

Wallach has a concussion and is sidelined on a day-to-day basis. The Angels, due to a lot of injuries at the catcher position, will have to rely even more on Matt Thaiss until Wallach is healthy enough to start behind the plate.

Jesus Sanchez, OF, Miami Marlins (Hamstring)

Sanchez was removed late from the Marlins' last game because he hurt his hamstring. We'll see if he's ready to open Miami's weekend series versus the Reds.

Austin Slater, OF, San Francisco Giants (Hamstring)

This isn't the first hamstring injury Slater has suffered this year. The Giants have placed Slater on the Injured List and he'll have to nurse it for the next few weeks to recover.

Travis Jankowski, OF, Texas Rangers (Hamstring)

Jankowski was put on the Rangers' Injured List after he hurt his hamstring. He'll miss another week of action before being re-evaluated.

Tomas Nido, C, New York Mets (Eye)

Nido is having vision issues and the Mets put him on the Injured List. Michael Perez will back up Francisco Alvarez at catcher.

Christian Arroyo, 2B, Boston Red Sox (Hamstring)

The Red Sox put Arroyo on the Injured List because of a strained hamstring. Boston can use Enrique Hernandez and Enmanuel Valdez to fill the void while Arroyo is out.

Tyler O’Neill, OF, St. Louis Cardinals (Back)

It hasn’t been a season to remember for O’Neill so far and the Cardinals have now put him on the Injured List with a back injury. Brendan Donovan, Juan Yepez, and Alec Burleson will fill in for O’Neill until he’s ready to return to the field.

MLB Injury Updates Pitchers

Max Scherzer, SP, New York Mets (Neck)

It's been over a week since Scherzer has started and the Mets haven't placed him on the Injured List just yet. He has a sore neck and we'll have to see what the Mets decide to do with him because we don't know when he'll start next. It wouldn't be surprising seeing the Mets put Scherzer on the IL soon. He's missed time already this season and New York should play it safe regarding his health.

Max Fried, SP, Atlanta Braves (Forearm)

We don't know if Fried will pitch again before the All-Star break as he's dealing with a badly strained forearm. The Braves have multiple injured starting pitchers now. Dylan Lee could become part of the Braves rotation as a result.

Kyle Wright, SP, Atlanta Braves (Shoulder)

Wright is another Braves pitcher that could be out through the All-Star break with a strained shoulder. Don't expect to see him back on the mound until the middle of the summer.

Drew Rasmussen, SP, Tampa Bay Rays (Elbow)

This was a very surprising report considering Rasmussen was coming off an incredible start, but now he's looking at two months on the shelf and that timetable can be extended due to a bad strain in his elbow. The next time we'll possibly see him on the mound is right after the all-star break.

Tyler Mahle, SP, Minnesota Twins (Elbow)

Mahle's 2023 season is over as he is going under the knife to have Tommy John surgery. We'll hopefully see him back on the hill early next year.

Noah Syndergaard, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers (Finger)

Syndergaard was taken out of his last start because of a cut on his finger. The Dodgers are waiting to see if the cut heals up so he can make his next start pain-free.

Mason Miller, SP, Oakland Athletics (Elbow)

Miller recently had some tests done on his elbow because he's been in pain. The A's will let him rest it for the next few weeks as he's been placed on the Injured List.

Alex Wood, SP, San Francisco Giants (Hamstring)

It's been weeks since Wood has started, but reports are out that he's just about ready to return to the Giants rotation. We should see him back in action in potentially a few days.

Antonio Senzatela, SP, Colorado Rockies (Arm)

Senzatela has a sore arm after he was taken out of his last start early. We'll have to see if the Rockies decide to put him on the Injured List over the next couple of days.

Jose Suarez, SP, Los Angeles Angels (Shoulder)

The Angels ended up placing Suarez on the Injured List and he'll need a few weeks before he's re-evaluated again. Expect him to likely be out of action until June.

Jose Alvarado, RP, Philadelphia Phillies (Elbow)

Alvarado was put on the Injured List with an elbow injury. He's not looking at anything season-ending, but he'll be out for at least another week or so as his elbow hopefully heals up. Craig Kimbrel will likely be the main fill-in at closer for the Phillies.

Andres Munoz, RP, Seattle Mariners (Shoulder)

Munoz hasn't appeared in a game for the Mariners in over a month. New reports have come out that his shoulder isn't healing and it's experiencing swelling. We don't know when he'll be back on the field again after this setback. He'll likely need at least another few weeks to rest his shoulder.

Penn Murfee, RP, Seattle Mariners (Elbow)

Murfee is on the Injured List with a swollen elbow and we won’t see him pitch for at least the next few weeks.

Garrett Cleavinger, RP, Tampa Bay Rays (Knee)

The Rays are worried that Cleavinger's season may be in jeopardy after he suffered a pretty major knee injury. We should know over the next few days how much time off Cleavinger will need.

Ryan Yarbrough, P, Kansas City Royals (Face)

Yarbrough got smacked in the face with a baseball and he's in the league's concussion protocol. He suffered a few injuries to his face last weekend.

Reiver Sanmartin, P, Cincinnati Reds (Elbow)

Sanmartin is on the Reds' Injured List with an elbow injury that should keep him sidelined for a month. He's not looking at season-ending surgery, but we may not see him back in action until close to the start of July.

Luis Garcia, SP, Houston Astros (Elbow)

Garcia’s 2023 MLB season is over as he will have Tommy John surgery on his elbow. Brandon Bielak will continue drawing starts in the Houston rotation right now. The Astros may have to trade for another pitcher, so keep an eye on that situation.

Jose Urquidy, SP, Houston Astros (Shoulder)

The timetable continues to alter surrounding when we should expect to see Urquidy pitch again. We may see him in June, or we might not see him back until right around the All-Star break – or even after it. Fantasy baseball investors of Urquidy should plan for multi-month damage control when it comes to their starting pitching depth because we don’t have a firm grasp on when Urquidy will return.

Vince Velasquez, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates (Elbow)

Velasquez has had a good start to the season. However, his elbow continues to swell and the Pirates will let him rest it for the next few weeks. He’s now been placed on the Injured List. We’ll have to see who fills in for Velasquez's spot in the Pirates rotation.

Caleb Thielbar, RP, Minnesota Twins (Oblique)

Thielbar was put on the Injured List a couple of days ago with a strained oblique. He’ll be out for at least the next few weeks. Thielbar has been a very impactful pitcher in the Twins bullpen this season, so this is an under-the-radar injury to know.

Jake Woodford, P, St. Louis Cardinals (Shoulder)

Woodford is experiencing swelling in his shoulder. The Cardinals put him on the Injured List a few days ago.

Zach Pop, RP, Toronto Blue Jays (Hamstring)

Pop landed on the Blue Jays Injured List with a strained hamstring. He’ll need the next few weeks to recover.
