No word yet on the reason for the late scratch. Slater had been slated to start in right field and bat third for the White Sox. Brooks Baldwin will replace him in the lineup and will start in right field against Sean Newcomb and the Red Sox on Friday evening.

Austin Slater went 1-for-3 and clubbed a solo home run in his White Sox’ debut during Thursday’s victory over the Angels.

Slater found himself batting fifth in the White Sox’ lineup against opposing left-hander Yusei Kikuchi and he rewarded manager Will Venable’s faith in him by crushing a 392-foot (105.1 mph EV) solo homer to lead off the second inning. He’s not going to find himself in the lineup on a nightly basis, but Slater does have some fantasy utility when he can be deployed against left-handed pitching.
