Athletics 1B prospect Nick Kurtz went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Tuesday for Triple-A Las Vegas.
If we’re going to highlight the impressive homers then we can’t ignore a tough performance. The 22-year-old top prospect has gotten off to an exceptional start at the dish this season, hitting .344 (22-for-64) with seven homers and 22 RBI through 15 games. He won’t steal bases, but he’s going to make an immediate four-category impact for fantasy managers once he reaches the big leagues, especially at hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.
Brent Rooker is starting in left field on Tuesday against the White Sox.
Rooker will appear in the outfield for the second time this season as the club appears to be preparing for the inevitable arrival of top prospect Nick Kurtz, who will presumably take over as the club’s starting first baseman with Tyler Soderstrom shifting to DH. His promotion doesn’t appear imminent, but it’s definitely coming in the near future, thanks to his absurd start to the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Athletics sent LHP Angel Perdomo outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Perdomo went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend by the Athletics. The 30-year-old lefty posted a lackluster 5.40 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio across 3 1/3 innings (four appearances).
Athletics 3B prospect Brett Harris went 3-for-6 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored for Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Harris has started the year going 16-for-41 (.390) with two home runs, three steals, seven RBI, and 13 runs scored. He didn’t produce in his first big league action last year, but with Gio Urshela hitting just .179/.220/.256 in 42 plate appearances for the Athletics this season, you have to wonder if another few strong weeks from Harris could push the team to make a move.
