Fantasy Football Streamers & Rankings For Week 9: Jameis Winston & More
Week 8 didn’t have any bye weeks. So fielding a lineup was easier than ever. It did, however, have some key injuries. And we are back to having teams on bye in Week 9. So, folks out there are going to need some fantasy football streamers off the wire in Week 9.
We’re here to keep those teams afloat for the time being with some guys that are on the waiver wire that you can start right now!
Fantasy Football Streamers For 2024 NFL Week 9
This article works in conjunction with our Waiver Wire Adds and Stashes articles.
The Week 9 waiver wire article includes the best players to pick up in general - they have both short term and long-term upside. But they might not be available, or you might get outbid. In our Week 9 waiver wire stashes article, we look at longer term options. But those aren’t guys you can necessarily start this week.
The Week 9 fantasy football streamers article is this one - guys that you can reasonably acquire off the wire AND potentially start this week.
We know that folks play in varying league depths so we’ll include any players that MIGHT be available (especially for really good matchups). And we’ll throw some honorable mentions in there for the really deep leagues. So, let’s dig into the Week 9 Fantasy Football Streamers!
Week 9 QB Streamers
Bo Nix - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 25% | ESPN: 37% | Sleeper: 35%
Bo Nix was our top add in the main Waiver Wire column. And though we like to picture the Ravens as a good defensive team, they really have not been.
Especially against the pass where they are allowing a league high 291.4 passing yards through the air per week. So the white hot Bo Nix is immediately on the streaming radar this week if you add him.
Jameis Winston - Cleveland Browns, Yahoo: 6% | ESPN: 3% | Sleeper: 11%
We wrote about why we like Matthew Stafford as well in our main article. And he has a decent matchup this week. But he’s rostered in a lot of leagues. Jameis Winston is actually available meaning we can actually add and stream him if we need someone.
The matchup might not be incredible but Jameis Winston’s willingness to chuck the football around gives us the one thing we want from a streaming option - hope. Turnovers are bad news in real life, but they really aren’t the end of the world in fantasy football. Winston at least gives us a shot at upside with his up-tempo playstyle.
- Honorable Mentions: Malik Willis vs. GB (if Jordan Love is out with groin), Joe Flacco vs. MIN (if Anthony Richardson is benched)
Week 9 RB Streamers
Tyler Allgeier - Atlanta Falcons, Yahoo: 37% | ESPN: 51% | Sleeper: 47%
Tyler Allgeeir continues to be the quintessential streamer, as we talked about in the Main Waiver wire article.
He might not be available in every league but, if he’s out there, you could do a lot worse. Especially against Dallas this week. One of our other fantasy football streamers in this range, Jaylen Warren, is on bye.
Justice Hill - Baltimore Ravens Yahoo: 21% | ESPN: 24% | Sleeper: 35%
It’s slim pickings out there. One of our go to guys, Antonio Gibson, went from a ~30-40% snap share guy down to more of a sub-20% snap share guy after he got nicked up. Justice Hill actually operated in the 50% range most weeks - he’s only had two games playing less than 41% this year.
The problem there is that he doesn’t get a whole lot of carries in most games. He’s maxed out at 5. He has, however, caught a pass in every single game and he has two games with 6 receptions. So that’s what you are hoping for when you pick up and start Hill. It’s a PPR move for sure.
Antonio Gibson - New England Patriots, Yahoo: 27% | ESPN: 33% | Sleeper: 33%
We mentioned the situation for Gibson above in the Justice Hill section. Which does have us a bit nervous. But there’s really not much out there in terms of immediate value that we can just plug in. And, despite only playing 19% of the snaps last week to 81% for Rhamondre Stevenson, he did get 5 carries.
Gibson has now had at least 5 touches in every game. And the matchup vs. the Tennessee Titans is a decent one. We just have to hope that he’s getting healthier each week and that he can force a little more of a split than he has over the last two weeks.
- Honorable Mentions: Braelon Allen vs. HOU, Ezekiel Elliott vs. ATL, Jaleel McLaughlin vs. BAL
Week 9 WR Streamers
Jalen Tolbert - Dallas Cowboys, Yahoo: 22% | ESPN: 27% | Sleeper: 35%
Brandin Cooks remains on the IR which keeps Tolbert on the streaming radar at least for another week. CeeDee Lamb was a force to be reckoned with in Week 8 which didn’t leave too much room for the others but Tolbert still caught all three targets sent his way.
The big thing for Tolbert is that he’s playing ~90% of the snaps as of late for the Cowboys. A role like that with a capable quarterback is just rarely available on the wire if we need it for a week. This week they get the white hot Falcons so the Cowboys will likely have to throw once again. CeeDee Lamb should see a good amount of AJ Terrell so maybe Tolbert will be a little more involved.
Rashod Bateman - Baltimore Ravens, Yahoo: 44% | ESPN: 23% | Sleeper: 44%
Rashod Bateman started the game with a nice, big 28 yard reception. Then he didn’t catch any of his four targets after that. Such is the life of a streaming wide receiver but, outside of the one game that Derrick Henry dominated against the Bills, he’s gotta four or more targets in each of these games. That’s worth something.
This week they get the Denver Broncos who have been a tough defense. And top wide receiver Zay Flowers could see a good amount of Pat Surtain. That could open things up for Bateman to get some more looks this week. Hopefully, he catches a couple of them.
Tre Tucker - Las Vegas Raiders, Yahoo: 10% | ESPN: 14% | Sleeper: 19%
Brock Bowers is the top target on this team, no doubt. But Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker are both playing full-time roles on the outside. In fact, Tre Tucker has played 95%, 95%, and 91% of the snaps over the last three weeks. The targets have varied from week to week, but he has also gotten a carry in each of the last two weeks.
The Raiders have their bye in Week 10 so he’s truly only a one-week streamer here. But they should once again be forced to play from behind going up against the Cincinnati Bengals this week. And he’s pretty widely available.
Mason Tipton - New Orleans Saints, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 2%
We spoke on Tipton in the fantasy football streamers article last week and this week he is in the main waiver article so make sure you check the write up over there. The short and sweet is that he is in the Rashid Shaheed role opposite of Chris Olave for the foreseeable future.
This week they face the Carolina Panthers which hsa easily been the worst defense in football. Derek Carr is expected back this week.
- Honorable Mentions: Jerry Jeudy vs. LAC, Elijah Moore vs. LAC, Demarcus Robinson vs. SEA, Demario Douglas vs. TEN
Week 9 TE Streamers
Zach Ertz - Washington Commanders, Yahoo: 28% | ESPN: 53% | Sleeper: 40%
Ertz is the streamer king, especially in any sort of PPR. Obviously the idea of relying on him for the rest of the season makes us nervous. But that’s why we stream him and stash some upside on the bench.
He already played this Giants team earlier this year and caught 4 passes for 62 yards. We’d take that. And that was back when Jayden Daniels was just getting started, before he even threw his first career NFL touchdown pass.
Hunter Henry - New England Patriots, Yahoo: 31% | ESPN: 27% | Sleeper: 30%
We’ve been talking about Hunter Henry in these articles all year. And I’m comfortable starting him as my only tight end in a lot of leagues where I have him, at least until his bye.
Obviously we are hoping that Drake Maye is cleared from this concussion to play this week against the Titans. But even with Jacoby Brissett he has flashed at times. Henry is one of the better players on a bad team. That gets him looks.
Jonnu Smith - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 6% | ESPN: 7% | Sleeper: 11%
Check the main Week 9 Waiver Wire article for the full write-up on this one. But the short and sweet is that Jonnu Smith, in this scheme, is a discount version of George Kittle.
He’s athletic (though not as athletic). And he’s involved (though not as involved). You could do a lot worse for a one week start in a game where Miami will have to throw.
Foster Moreau - New Orleans Saints, Yahoo: 1% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 0%
We promise to help with folks in super deep leagues, if necessary. If Juwan Johnson is out with injury this week, Moreau could be called into additional duty like he was this week, playing the second most snaps of any pass-catcher on the Sants behind only Chris Olave.
You are fishing for a touchdown here but this guy has scored some in his career, including this year. Derek Carr could be back this week and they get the Panthers.
- Honorable Mentions: Cole Kmet, Dalton Schultz, Ja’Tavion Sanders
Week 9 K Streamers
Blake Grupe - New Orleans Saints, Yahoo: 5% | ESPN: 8% | Sleeper: 4%
I would first check to see if Austin Seibert is there. He’s rostered in over 80% of Yahoo leagues but oddly fewer than 50% on both Yahoo and Sleeper.
The Commanders are a good football team so he’s an appealing option against the Giants. Otherwise we will stick with the classic streaming strategy of “whoever is playing the Panthers”.
Cairo Santos - Chicago Bears, Yahoo: 9% | ESPN: 11% | Sleeper: 5%
It was a tough loss this week. But I don’t think Caleb Williams and the Bears are actually as bad as they were in Week 8.
In Week 9 they get the Arizona Cardinals so they should be able to right the ship. And Santos is widely available as a decent streaming option in the Arizona air-conditioned dome.
- Honorable Mentions: Chad Ryland, Dustin Hopkins
Week 9 DST Streamers
Tennessee Titans DST, Yahoo: 2% | ESPN: 2% | Sleeper: 3%
The Titans' defense actually has not been bad. They are currently ranked 9th in DVOA (12th against the pass, 6th against the rush). The offense has been bad, so they are losing games.
But the defense is a surprisingly decent unit. This week they get the New England Patriots who are ripe with turnover potential whether Drake Maye or Jacoby Brissett is starting.
New Orleans Saints DST, Yahoo: 34% | ESPN: 30% | Sleeper: 21%
Here’s the full analysis - any defense that faces the Carolina Panthers is a viable streaming option.
They played Carolina in Week One and had 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and recovered a fumble while allowing 10 points and under 200 yards of offense.
New England Patriots DST, Yahoo: 5% | ESPN: 4% | Sleeper: 3%
We just mentioned that the Titans offense is bad. And their remaining star wide receiver, Calvin Ridley, is in for a tough assignment against Christian Gonzalez this week.
According to Bob Kraft, Calvin Ridley did not want to play for the Patriots even though the money they offered would have covered any tax difference. Perhaps that will be billboard material for a New England defense that Jerod Mayo recently called “soft”. With three defenses fairly available, we don’t need honorable mentions.
Make Use Of These Week 9 Fantasy Football Streamers & Good Luck!
In a perfect scenario, your starting team is packed with all-star talent. Your bench would ideally feature a solid mix of high-potential players from our Waiver Wire Article or some deeper stash options. But let’s be real, fantasy football isn’t always perfect.
Sometimes, you just have to grit your teeth and play the guy who gives you the most reliable performance, even if he’s not the most exciting choice. That’s where these fantasy football streamers come into play.
Sure, the breakout players later in the season might be the ones that clinch the championship, but you’ve got to make it to the playoffs first to have a shot at winning it all.
