2024 Player Outlook

Zach Ertz was on pace for over 100 targets last year before he injured his quad. Then third-year tight end Trey McBride took over and ran away with the job. Ertz now reunites with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury - in their games together in Arizona and averaged, Ertz averaged over 6.5 targets per game. Ertz needs to hold off rookie tight end Ben Sinnott but, if he can, there could be targets in store for him once again.

Commanders re-signed TE Zach Ertz to a one-year, $6.25 million contract.

Another $2.75 million is available through incentives. It’s a great outcome for 34-year-old Ertz after he rebounded from an injury-wrecked 2023 to post his most yards since 2021 last season. He was functionally sensational rookie Jayden Daniels’ No. 2 weapon. That, of course, is something Washington doesn’t want to repeat, and Ertz is now a clear third behind Terry McLaurin and trade acquisition Deebo Samuel. Already essentially a catch-and-fall specialist, Ertz will probably have trouble repeating last year’s low-end TE1 production in fantasy, but he will undoubtedly remain a solid matchup-based play. The Commanders might not be done adding in their skill corps, which was scarily low on weapons by the end of last season.

Zach Ertz caught 11-of-16 targets for 104 yards in the Commanders’ NFC Championship Game loss to the Eagles.

Ertz’s massive day came after he never caught more than seven balls during the regular season. Playing on a bargain, one-year contract after spending the past 2.5 seasons in Arizona, 34-year-old Ertz caught 66 passes, his most since 2021. Of course, he turned them into just 654 yards, bringing him under 10.0 per pop. Even for a tight end, that’s a bit of a problem, if hardly unprecedented for a catch-and-fall artist. That’s what Ertz is at this stage of his career, though there is still value there. Someone has to move the chains. With the Commanders low on proven pass catchers, Ertz could be back on another one-year deal for 2025.

Zach Ertz (ribs) was removed from the injury report and will play in the NFC Championship Game against the Eagles.

Ertz was given Wednesday’s practice off but returned for a full session on Thursday. He is good to go as the Commanders look to pull off the upset against Philly. Ertz is heavily involved in the Commanders’ passing attack and will need to step up in the short and intermediate areas of the field this week. He is a solid DFS option for the final main slate of the year.

Zach Ertz (ribs) was a full participant in Thursday’s practice.

Ertz is dealing with a rib injury, but Wednesday’s DNP was to allow him to rest said injury — as was the case last week. The veteran tight end isn’t at risk of missing Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Eagles and will have some upside as a DFS value against his former team.
