MLB DFS Picks & Playbook For Today’s Games: Friday, June 14th
Published: Jun 14, 2024
Happy Friday! It has been a great week of baseball. If you were with us yesterday, rolling with Garrett Crochet and Brandon Pfaadt on the mound and some solid picks on the offense, you should have had a great day. We are in store for another great day of baseball with some more great pitchers taking the mound, and hopefully, we keep the week going strong with some more winning MLB DFS lineups here today.
After a short slate yesterday, we are back to a nice big 12-game main slate this evening on both DraftKings and FanDuel that will be getting started at 7:05 PM ET.
We get one afternoon game, with the Cardinals facing the Cubs at 2:20 PM ET, and then only the Red Sox vs. Yankees and Marlins vs. Nationals games are not on our main slate. There is a lot to get into today, so let’s not waste any time and jump right into today’s MLB DFS Playbook and my favorite MLB DFS picks for Friday!
MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, June 14
MLB Weather Today, 6/14
There are some thunderstorms this evening, but even if they interfere, they shouldn’t last long, so at worst, it's looking like a delay.
Also, there are some thunderstorms here, which should reduce to light rain by game time. I think they shouldn’t have an issue playing either, but keep an eye on it.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
There is no shortage of aces on today’s slate. There are so many great pitchers taking the mound. With that, I am likely not trying to pay down too much for pitching just because I have a hard time seeing the cheap options keep up with the scoring that will likely happen on the top end of pitchers (though I do have one cheap option in my favorites in case you want to build a lineup that way). This means fewer offenses to target even with it being a large slate, but there are still some good offenses to target today when building your lineup.
On the pitching end, some of my honorable mentions today, as there are so many pitchers I like even outside of my favorites, including Chris Sale, Freddy Peralta, Kyle Bradish, Kevin Gausman, Hunter Greene, Matt Waldron, and Hunter Brown.
On the offensive side, some of my favorite lineups to target today include the Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, and San Diego Padres.

Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers
It is hard to pick a favorite among the top pitching options today. If you are leaning toward Chris Sale against the Tampa Bay Rays, I certainly can’t argue too hard against that, but Tarik Skubal is my choice today.
Tarik Skubal has just been so consistently awesome this season. He had another 10-strikeout game in his last outing, he has at least 6 strikeouts in all but one start this season, and he has gone at least 6 innings in all but two starts. He just provides so much floor with a huge ceiling that has him as my top option today even against the Houston Astros.
Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals
I know it is the Dodgers, but I just think Cole Ragans is so talented that I am willing to risk it against the Dodgers here today, who aren’t infallible (only 1 run on 5 hits yesterday against the Rangers). He doesn’t quite have the stability that Skubal has had this season with a couple of blowup games, but for the most part, he has been fantastic.
Through his last 5 starts, he has 41 strikeouts in 30 innings with a 1.20 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. The Dodgers will be a challenge, but one that Ragans can handle, and I think the upside is too good to ignore.
Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners
I liked playing Luis Castillo a lot better when he faced the Chicago White Sox, but I still think he is a great play today against the Texas Rangers. His strikeouts haven’t really been there through his last 5 starts, with only a 17.4% strikeout rate, but before that stretch, he had a 29% strikeout rate on the season.
He has had a stretch of tough matchups, and while the Rangers aren’t necessarily an easy one, I still think that Castillo is too cheap today. I think we can see him get back to 6+ strikeouts today. He has just as much upside as anyone else on the mound today, but you get him for much cheaper than some of the other aces.
Andrew Heaney, Texas Rangers
As I said in my construction thoughts, I am likely playing on the higher end of pitching today, but if you want to save some money, Hunter Brown and Andrew Heaney are solid options. Heaney is my favorite cheap play today.
He has looked solid in his last two outings with 12 strikeouts in 11.2 innings, only giving up 3 earned runs. The Seattle Mariners just strike out so much that someone with a little strikeout upside like Heaney has could easily go out there and pile up a ton of strikeouts today, maybe not the 13 that Garrett Corchet got yesterday, but could still be plenty to give you great value at this price.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals

- Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Ryan Feltner
- Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chris Flexen
- Atlanta Braves vs. Zack Littell

*Note: Will Be Updated As Official Starting Lineups Are Released
Christian Walker, 1B Arizona Diamondbacks
I was in on Christian Walker yesterday and he delivered with two homers. I am going to turn right back to him today with this matchup against Chris Flexen. He has 3 homers in his last two games and Chris Flexen won’t likely slow him down much.
The Diamondbacks are one of the better lineups to target today in this matchup, and Christian Walker is my favorite of the group to go after, even if you aren’t stacking with the rest of the Diamondbacks.
Royce Lewis, 3B Minnesota Twins
We are staying on the Royce Lewis train. This is a solid matchup for the Twins, who will face Mitch Spence and the Oakland Athletics, and Royce Lewis has looked amazing.
He went 2 for 4 with a run scored in yesterday’s game, and that was a slow day for him. He really looks like he could be one of the best hitters in baseball if he can stay healthy. Now, I don’t know if he has the ability to stay healthy, but while he is, I am going to be turning to him a lot and will certainly be doing so today.
Oneil Cruz, SS Pittsburgh Pirates
If you want some Coors exposure today, why not go after Oneil Cruz? Granted, you can viably stack a handful of Pirates and Rockies today, but Oneil Cruz is probably the top guy in that matchup I am targeting.
He hasn’t been incredible or anything, but he has been solid, and we know the upside is still incredibly high. He hits the ball so hard that in Coors, there is a great chance that he can crush the ball today. He gets to face Ryan Feltner, who has been hit around by lefties this season, so it should be a great place for Oneil Cruz to show off his strength.
Luis Robert, OF Chicago White Sox
Luis Robert has 4 homers in his last 6 games (and one of those he didn’t even start). The White Sox stack didn’t do great yesterday, but Robert still homered so he is at least giving you value.
I think you could try and do a small Chicago White Sox stack again today with them getting to face Ryne Nelson, but I think the better move might just be playing Robert as a one-off who is definitely their best hitter and is on quite the hot streak at the plate.
