Castillo had a 1.74 ERA in 40 relief appearances for Toledo last season and also pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Tigers. Still, no one thought it was worth putting in a claim for him. He'll be eligible for free agency.

Same names. Vastly different talents. The "other" Castillo has been effective with 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the Tigers, but heads down with Joey Wentz being recalled to come a member of the Detroit rotation. 

The team designated Michael Pineda for assignment on Sunday to free up a spot on the roster. The 27-year-old hurler has only made two appearances with the big league club this season, hurling a pair of scoreless innings. He has been dominant at Triple-A though, registering a 1.65 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 41/11 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings.

Castillo is sent to the minors to clear room on the roster for Daniel Norris, who will be activated on Friday. The 27-year-old hurled a scoreless inning in his only appearance with Detroit after being promoted on August 6.
