Top Tier Core Plays
Domantas Sabonis, C, Sacramento Kings
Sabonis is in a pace-up spot against a bad team, yes, please. It hasn't mattered what the game environment has been for Sabonis and the Kings, he gets his numbers. He has played at least 34 minutes in 11 straight games and has scored at least 50 fantasy points in nine of those games. He just possesses such a solid floor because of his assist and rebounding numbers. If you play Sabonis tonight, he should not disappoint.
Donovan Mitchell, PG/SG, Cleveland Cavaliers
Similar to Sabonis, Donovan Mitchell is in a massive pace-up spot against the Washington Wizards who play at the fastest pace in the NBA. Evan Mobley and Darius Garland are back for the Cavs, but Mitchell does not take a huge hit. His usage rate goes from 33% without Garland to 31%, and his assist numbers go from 7.1 to 5.7 assists per game. That number dip, doesnt scare me off in this one with a great matchup against the Wizards.
Jayson Tatum, SF/PF, Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum is also in a great spot tonight taking on the Atlanta Hawks who are coming in struggling and banged up. The Hawks play at a fast pace and struggle defensively. In the last matchup against the Hawks in November, the Celtics won by 10 and Tatum finished with a 34-9 night for 54 fantasy points. He is sitting at just $9,600 on DraftKings tonight, so him getting over 5x his value like he has in three of his past five games is likely. Go with Tatum tonight.
Stephen Curry, PG/SG, Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry has been having a mid-season resurgence as of late. This couldn't have come at a better time, because he and his team have been in a bit of a lull. Curry has scored over 35 game points in three of his past five games, including 46 and 60-point performances. He has also gotten up a ton of volume from behind the three-point line with 77 attempts during that span. Curry is in a good matchup tonight against a banged-up 76ers team, and is absolutely in play. The 76ers defensive rating goes from 112.6 all the way to 120.9, which would rank second worst in the NBA this season.
Mid-Tier Core Plays
Kawhi Leonard, SF/PF, Los Angeles Clippers
Kawhi Leonard is starting to remind us that he still might be the best two-way player in the league once again. Over his last six games he is averaging 30 points, almost seven rebounds, and four assists, for 51 fantasy points. His price is sitting just at $8,900 tonight on DraftKings, which seems like a bit of a misprice. The Pelicans defense has the 8th best defensive rating in the NBA, but the game total is still over 230. Keep riding the wave with Kawhi while he is healthy.
Tobias Harris, SF/PF, Philadelphia 76ers
This 76ers team is really struggling with injuries and illness right now. They are without Joel Embiid, Nicolas Batum, De'Anthony Melton, and Robert Covington. Their best player Tyrese Maxey is also questionable with an illness tonight and was not seen at the shootaround today. With just Joel Embiid out of the lineup, Harris's usage rate goes from 19% to almost 25% and his scoring goes from 17 points per game to 20. If Maxey is out tonight, those numbers should be even hire. either way, I like Harris at his price of just $7,700 on DraftKings.
Kristaps Porzingis, PF/C, Boston Celtics
We talked above about how this is a nice pace-up matchup for this Celtics team against Atlanta. Kristaps Porzingis has been so good for the Celtics all season as the third guy alongside Tatum and Brown. They are trying to limit him to playing around just 30 minutes a night, but that hasn't stop KP from putting up fantasy points. Veteran center Clint Capela is out in this game leaving Onyeka Okongwa as the primary matchup. I look for that matchup to go in KP's favor, and he should score over 40 fantasy points again.
Brandon Miller, SF, Charlotte Hornets
This play is very interesting tonight with Gordon Hayward both questionable to play in this one. We have seen in the last three games what Brandon Miller is capable of doing as he has scored over 50 fantasy points in three straight games. The rookie has also scored over 20 game points in five straight games as well. If Hayward is out tonight I will be all over Brandon Miller again. If he plays, I am less excited, but he is still in play.
Brandin Podziemski, PG/SG, Golden State Warriors
The rookie Brandin Podziemski is having a great rookie season for this Warriors team as he is earning more and more playing time as the season has gone on. He is a very solid option in the backcourt next to Stephen Curry because of his passing and shooting abilities. He has scored in double figures in five straight games and has dished out 30 assists during that span as well. However, it is also his rebounding numbers that pad his fantasy stats for us with him grabbing double-digit rebounds in back-to-back games. Podz has a solid floor tonight in a good matchup against the 76ers.
Jakob Poeltl, C, Toronto Raptors
Jakob Poeltl is back doing his thing for this Toronto Raptors team. We know he is going to rebound the basketball and be extremely efficient from the floor. in the three games since coming back he is averaging 27 minutes a night and 30 fantasy points. You will gladly take that from someone who is priced at just $5,900 on DraftKings. The Hornets also start Nic Richards at center, and Jakob Poeltl should be able to get physical with the young fella, leading to a solid performance.
Onyeka Okongwu, C, Atlanta Hawks
Onyeka Okongwu will once again get the start for the injured Clint Capela tonight against Boston. Over his last four games, he has played at least 26 minutes and scored at least 24 fantasy points in each. If Okongwu was more aggressive on the boards he would be a great fantasy contributor like we saw the other night grabbing 16 rebounds. However, that was his only double-digit rebounding performance since mid-January.
Value Tier Core Plays
Malik Monk, PG/SG, Sacramento Kings
Malik Monk is now cheap enough to where I want to find a spot for him in my lineup at just $5,400. He has a 45 fantasy point ceiling each and every night if his shot falls. However, he has been giving the counting stats of late as well. He has grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out 14 assists over the last three games while also getting up double-digit shot attempts in each. It's a bit risky because we have seen his floor just completely fall out from underneath him, but at his price, you can risk it a bit more.
Mo Bamba, C, Philadelphia 76ers
Bamba isn't starting at center for the injured Joel Embiid but he is still going to play close to 20 minutes. He will also likely be more consistent than Paul Reed who is starting at center. The difference between the two is their price, Reed is at $6,200 which I am not touching, while Mamba is sitting at just $4,700. Reed has only outperformed Bamba twice in the past five games. Give me the cheaper guy here.
Jaime Jaquez, SF/PF, Miami Heat
Jaime Jaquez is finally back and looking like himself from the injury. He finished his last game with 12 points six rebounds and three steals finishing with 28 fantasy points which was the highest he has scored since coming back. It's a shame he got hurt because the offense was running smoothly with him being a solid contributor. Hopefully, his last game was a sign that things are coming back, and he is once again viable, especially at his price of just $4,600.
Corey Kispert, SF/PF, Washington Wizards
Corey Kispert is a fine play at just $4,400 against the Cavs tonight. He has scored at least 20 fantasy points in four straight games. He has chucked up 34 three-point attempts during that span while knocking just 11 of them, and coming off a 0-7 performance from behind the arc. He still finished with 24 fantasy points in that one scoring 15 points and dishing out four assists. I like that Kispert is game-script-proof, as he will play even in a blowout. I am totally fine with Kispert as a salary saver tonight.
Isaac Okoro, SF/PF, Cleveland Cavaliers
This is a dart throw option because of his 4K price-point. Okoro should still see around 25 minutes tonight because of his defense even with Gralnd and everyone back in the lineup. If he knocks down a couple of shots, he has 25 fantasy points upside tonight in a massive pace-up spot against the Wizards.
Late Breaking News
- Jrue Holiday is out. That likely means Al Horford will get the start.
- Dejoumte Murray is out. I like Bogdan Bogdanovic much more tonight, and Saddiq Bey is much more intriguing as well.
