LaMelo Ball (ankle, wrist) underwent two surgeries and is expected to return to basketball activities in 5-6 weeks.
Ball underwent successful procedures on his right ankle and right wrist early this week. Unfortunately, injuries have been a significant factor in the Hornets guard’s career, as he’s surpassed 55 games once in his first five seasons. While Ball does possess a high fantasy ceiling, the injury woes make him challenging to trust in most leagues. Some managers may be willing to use a top-50 pick on him in the fall, while others would prefer to leave that dice roll to someone else.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports LaMelo Ball will undergo season-ending procedures on his wrist and ankle.
Charania says the procedures will be minor, but Ball will not play again this season. With the Hornets eliminated from postseason contention and LaMelo having played through those issues, it’s unsurprising that he’ll be shut down. Damion Baugh and KJ Simpson will play more down the stretch, with Baugh offering greater potential for managers needing scoring at the point guard position.
LaMelo Ball (ankle) and Josh Okogie (hamstring) are out for Friday’s game against the Raptors.
LaMelo Ball finished with 25 points, nine assists, a rebound and three triples across 29 minutes in Tuesday’s loss to Orlando.
Ball is averaging a career-best 25.2 points this season, and Tuesday’s 25-point performance marked his 29th such game in 47 appearances. The Hornets face the Raptors on Friday before taking on the Pelicans on Sunday to close out the week. Both matchups are favorable for Ball, but it’s unclear if he’ll play in both contests, lest the Hornets risk winning too many more games.
