Gary Payton II (illness) is available for Game 1 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
Payton II missed the Warriors win over the Rockets on Sunday as Golden State advanced in Game 7. His return in Game 1 against the Timberwolves will likely push Jonathan Kuminga out of the Warriors’ rotation. Payton’s defense could be important in this series against Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

Payton II is still listed as questionable after missing Game 7 against the Rockets on Sunday. However, he wasn’t at shootaround ahead of that game, so this is a good sign for his chances of playing. Jonathan Kuminga logged seven scoreless minutes in Game 7 and would likely be pushed back out of the rotation if Payton II is back.

Added to the Warriors’ injury report late Sunday morning, Payton will miss the series decider in Houston. This should result in Brandin Podziemski returning to the starting lineup after playing 29 minutes off the bench in Game 6. Also, Moses Moody could return to the lineup to strengthen the Warriors’ perimeter defense, with Buddy Hield coming off the bench.
