Welcome to Tuesday! We have another great day in store for us. No day games today, but that just means you can spend some time enjoying the Olympics during the day while we get prepped for baseball this evening with a full slate in store for us. We will be going for gold ourselves, looking to build some more winning MLB DFS lineups!

We have a nice 11-game slate that will begin at 7:05 PM ET on DraftKings and FanDuel. There are plenty of great matchups in store for us, including the evening ending with the complete opposite of matchups with two of the worst teams in baseball with the Chicago White Sox facing the Oakland Athletics and then two of the best teams in baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. There is a lot to get into for today’s slate, so let’s get right into today’s playbook and all of my favorite MLB DFS picks.

MLB Weather Today, 8/06

Update: POSTPONED

There are no weather concerns regarding postponements or delays, but currently, 20+ MPH winds are blowing out, and if they hold, they could downgrade Pablo Lopez and Shota Imanaga's outlook.

Update:  The wind has shifted and is blowing in instead of out now.

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

It is an interesting slate of pitchers. I am avoiding Luis Gil because of the weather. I really like both Sonny Gray and Shota Imanaga, and they even have pretty reasonable prices, but I have a hard time taking them when I can get Grayson Rodriguez, Framber Valdez, Luis Castillo, and Pablo Lopez all between $8,500 and $8,000. With those 4 all being such quality pitchers at very reasonable prices, I have a hard time turning anywhere else today.

On the offensive side, we have Coors Field to contend with; Kyle Freeland has been incredible at home this season (1.88 ERA), but can he keep it up against this Mets offense? Outside of Coors, some of my other favorite lineups to target today include the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and Houston Astros

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Pablo Lopez, Minnesota Twins

Pablo Lopez has thrown three straight quality starts, with 7 strikeouts in each start, yet you can get him for by far the lowest price of the season. Over his last 7 starts, he has a 2.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 32.4% strikeout rate. I do not understand this price at all.

Since the all-star break, the Cubs have a .625 OPS against righties and a 22.1% strikeout rate. I would likely want to start Pablo Lopez even if he was the most expensive pitcher on the slate, and you can get him as the ninth-priced pitcher on the board.

Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners

Luis Castillo has a 2.82 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 26% strikeout rate at home this season. The Tigers are not a very threatening offense right now. Since the all-star break, they have a .618 OPS against right-handers with a 22% strikeout rate.

Castillo's strikeouts have still been inconsistent but much better at home, and he still has plenty of high-strikeout games. He has now had 5 straight quality starts, and I don’t see why he wouldn’t go get another against the Tigers today. He carries plenty of upside at this price.

Grayson Rodriguez, Baltimore Orioles

Grayson Rodriguez has been better than his 5.14 ERA through his last 5 starts suggests. He still has 3 quality starts and 3 wins over that stretch, at least 7 strikeouts in 4 of the 5 starts, and 8 strikeouts in 3 of them.

Toronto’s offense isn’t terrible, but they aren’t scary either. Grayson just faced them in his last outing and struck out 8, and I don’t see why he can’t do something similar here today; this is also the first time his price has dipped below $9,000 since May.

Baltimore Orioles Lefties

We have discussed Chris Bassitt’s struggles against lefties in the past, and the Orioles happen to have a lot of great lefty (or switch hitter) bats. Chris Bassit has a 1.68 WHIP against lefties and only an 18.3% strikeout rate, and I am happy to stack plenty of lefties against him here today.

With the options they give you between Colton Coweser, Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Santander, Ryan O’Hearn, Cedric Mullins, and Jackson Holliday, you could construct a full 5-man stack in several different ways.

Oakland Athletics Outfield

This is highlighted, obviously, by Brent Rooker, who continues to absolutely mash. Since June 25th, nobody has had more homers than Brent Rooker. Even Aaron Judge has 2 less, with only 13 to Rooker’s 15. Over that stretch, he has also thrown in 5 steals and is batting .350.

After Rooker, you also have Lawrence Butler and JJ Bleday, who continue to produce solidly for this Oakland offense. On top of that, for those two, Jonathan Cannon has been crushed by lefties so far this season, and they both come at very low prices relative to Rooker.

Jarren Duran, OF Boston Red Sox

Jarren Duran’s breakout season continues. He has hits in 17 of his last 18 games. Over that stretch, he has 11 multi-hit games, 17 extra-base hits, 4 homers, 5 steals, and 17 runs and RBIs. It has been just incredible production.

While Seth Lugo is a good pitcher and having a very good season, I don’t have faith that he can stifle this red-hot Boston offense in Fenway, coming off a day when they scored 9 runs off 18 hits. Unless you are playing all three of those Oakland outfielders, Jarren Duran should probably find his way into your lineup.
