Severino pitched well after the first inning, which is good. He gave up three runs in that inning, however, which kinda defeats everything else. Severino has given up five earned in back-to-back starts after his impressive outing in the opener, and his ERA has inflated to 4.84 in the process. He’ll try to rebound against his old team in the Mets on Sunday.

A throwing error and a walk put two runners on for Seiya Suzuki, who took Severino deep for a three-run shot to continue the Cubs offensive barrage early in this one. After a clean second inning, the Cubs brought two more runs in to score in the third, including a solo shot by Kyle Tucker. After letting up a sixth run in the fourth, Severino gave the Athletics two more frames to save the bullpen. The 31-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back when he takes on the Padres in Sacramento on Monday.

A heck of a debut for Severino. The 31-year-old did walk four, but he gave up just three hits and kept the Mariner offense for every really mounting a challenge. His final pitch was a perfectly-located offering to strike out Rowdy Tellez on the outside corner with runners on second and third. He generated 12 swing-and-miss, and his fastball was routinely in the mid-to-high 90s. Severino will get a chance to show off his stuff against the Cubs next week.

Severino allowed six hits, walked one and struck out four in his spring finale. He’s not our favorite mixed-league option, but he will make for a solid play when he faces the Mariners in Seattle on Opening Day.
