Matthew Stafford has been one of the hottest topics this offseason. Is he being traded? If so, what’s the best landing spot? As it turns out, however, he’s not going anywhere. And the best landing spot for him is at home with the Los Angeles Rams, where he won his first and only Super Bowl.

In case you missed it, the Rams and Stafford recently agreed to a deal that will give him a significant raise for 2025. The paperwork has not been filed yet and the numbers have not leaked but we’ll do our best to speculate below.

In fact, with the legal tampering period opening next Monday, March 10th, this is our last chance to speculate on what might happen with a number of players (like Cooper Kupp, who is also rumored to be on the trade block). So, that’s what we’ll do today.

Let’s take a peek at the Rams depth chart, contracts, cap space, and free agents to make our best predictions for NFL Free Agency. Maybe this can help you out in your dynasty fantasy football leagues or NFL mock drafts, if you dabble in those.

Rams Quarterback Depth Chart

Matthew Stafford: The 37-year-old quarterback is currently set to make $27 million in 2025 and $29 million in 2026. With $56 million on the books for two years, we have to wonder how high they are willing to go here. There were reports that teams like the Raiders were willing to offer as much as $100 million on a two-year deal. Stafford might be willing to offer a discount to stay in a familiar spot but there’s currently over a $40 million difference to be made up.

Regardless, we know two things. We know that he’s staying. And we know that it could hurt their ability to dole out a large, multi-year contract to free agents. They aren’t in a terrible spot so they could make something work. But, with teams like New England having ~$130M and needing a wide receiver, the competition is stiff.

In your dynasty fantasy football leagues, now is the time to move Stafford if you aren’t competing now. He probably doesn’t have much value in a single QB league but, in superflex or two QB, a competitor might take him off your hands. At 37 years old, the wheels could fall off fairly quickly over the next couple years.

Jimmy GaroppoloJimmy Garoppolo will have a decision to make. He’s a free agent and, at 33 years old himself, he doesn’t have all the time in the world to wait for Stafford to hang them up. He’ll have suitors so the Rams will have to make the deal make sense to him momentarily with some sort of understanding that he has a legitimate chance of taking over if/when the time comes.

Stetson BennettStetson Bennett has not had a typical journey. He was a highly touted high school prospect that spent a long time in college football. That made him an older prospect when he was drafted in 2023. Then he suffered a shoulder injury and ended up on the NFI list due to mental health issues he was dealing with.

Going into 2024 there were some questions about whether his roster spot was safe. He inevitably made the team as the QB3 behind Garoppolo. The question now is an interesting one - if Jimmy Garoppolo walks, do they trust Bennett to be the backup to Matthew Stafford? I like the idea of hanging onto him but, with a 37-year-old starter, they might want something a little safer.

RAMS QB FREE AGENCY TAKE: Having Jimmy Garoppolo would be nice if they can bring him back on a reasonable deal. If they aren’t going to pay up for him, they aren’t likely going to pay up for another expensive backup older option. Drafting a quarterback also puts them in a tough spot in terms of who would play if Stafford goes down. That leaves limited free agent options.

They could take the “safe” route of paying an older QB like a Teddy Bridgewater. Or they could bring back Carson Wentz. I like the idea of potentially bringing in a young(ish) free agent QB and maybe developing them for when Stafford is gone. Here are some of the options there.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENT OPTIONS: Mac Jones, Daniel Jones, Zach Wilson, Drew Lock

Rams Running Back Depth Chart

Kyren WilliamsI’ll admit that I doubted Kyren Williams when he was first drafted. He had a pretty tough combine, weighing in on the low side while also running only a 4.65 forty-yard dash. That put his speed score in the bottom 10% of backs and might have been why he fell to the fifth round. But it turns out the Rams were once again right and everyone else was wrong.

Williams has proven to be a workhorse. And he’s done so under Sean McVay who is one of the few coaches that likes using one back full-time. That had him playing 87% of the snaps last year on average - the next high player was Bijan Robinson at 75%. Barring a major philosophy change, whoever the starting back for Sean McVay is has immediate fantasy football value.

Blake CorumThe heavy single RB deployment by Sean McVay made Blake Corum one of the top handcuffs in football. The problem for Corum? Well, Kyren Williams never got hurt. Miraculously given his size and usage, he played every single game except for Week 18 where the Rams rested their starters. That was the game where Blake Corum finally got his chance, and he promptly broke his forearm.

So, for now, Blake Corum is a bit of a mystery box for us. He’s expected to make a full recovery. And he’ll likely be the RB2 behind Kyren Williams. Given the Rams philosophy, I’m not super concerned about his lack of usage. I’m looking to buy Corum in dynasty if his current owner is concerned and that should be an even bigger priority if you have Kyren Williams

Ronnie RiversRonnie Rivers served as the RB3 and primarily played special teams (where he appeared on four different units). That makes him a valuable player but perhaps not valuable enough to bring back on the ~$3 million restricted free agent tender. I could see them working out a two-year deal maybe for $2M-$4M to keep him around in his current capacity.

Cody SchraderCody Schrader was set to sign to the 49ers practice squad when the Rams called and offered him a spot on the 53-man roster. The 49ers weren’t prepared to offer that, so the NFC rival scooped him away.

Schrader was inactive for most games until Week 18 when the starters were resting. After Blake Corum got hurt, he remained on the roster. He can be released with zero in dead cap and $960K in cap space so his roster spot isn’t a lock, but they do not have a deep RB room as is.

  • Reserves/Futures: N/A

RAMS RB FREE AGENCY TAKE: I’ve seen some speculation about the Rams signing guys like Rico Dowdle, JK Dobbins, Kareem Hunt. But they have never really been the kind of team that operates a committee. And they have what they need at the top with Kyren Williams and Blake Corum

They really just need to sort out the depth and special teams players. And, unless they plan to move Corum or Jordan Whittington off of kick returns, the special teams work available isn’t even the exciting kind. Here are some guys that do return kicks if they want to go that route and keep Corum fresh. But Corum probably enjoys the return duty as he doesn’t play much otherwise.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENT OPTIONS: Kenneth Gainwell, Kene Nwangwu, Avery Williams, Ameer Abdullah, Nyheim Hines

Rams Wide Receiver Depth Chart

Puka NacuaIt’s no surprise that the Jaguars hired James Gladstone to be their GM from the Les Snead tree. Snead, with the help of Brad Holmes, found Cooper Kupp in the third round. Brad Holmes went to Detroit where he found Amon-Ra St. Brown in the fourth round. Snead and the Rams then found Puka Nacua in the fifth round. Maybe Gladstone will find the next star in the sixth round?

All jokes aside, Puka Nacua looks like a certified star. He’s one of the more valuable assets both in real-life football and dynasty fantasy football. And he only turns 24 this spring. That’s the kind of player you hold onto.

Cooper KuppIn 2021, Cooper Kupp had the greatest fantasy season a WR has ever had. And the Rams won the Super Bowl. Since then, he’s dealt with a number of injuries, and his production has waned. He has since been informed by the team that they plan to trade him.

The Washington Commanders are off the board after trading for Deebo Samuel. But there are plenty of options out there. The Jaguars, for instance, could move on from Christian Kirk and make a play for Kupp now that they have Liam Coen and James Gladstone. Teams like the Patriots are desperate for pass-catchers. The Ravens run an offense where he could rotate and not be a full-time player.

If you are rebuilding in dynasty, you should sell Kupp immediately. If I’m competing to win in a dynasty league, however, I’ll kick the tires on Cooper Kupp. Based on comments from him last season, he believes he can still play, and he wants the ball. In dynasty, I’m not as worried about injuries because it’s a top-heavy game and I’ve built my team to win. I play Kupp when he’s healthy and, when he’s not, I put in another good player. Plan ahead.

TuTu Atwell: While Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua were hurt, TuTu Atwell briefly got a look at what it would look like to be a featured wide receiver. He had a couple games there with 9 and 10 targets even and did okay. But, upon their return, he went back to being a field stretcher.

At this stage I think, regardless of whether Kupp is back, Atwell is better off testing the open market. He might be able to find a team that views him as more than just a field stretcher where he can run a more diverse route tree. Or at least play a bigger snap share.

UPDATE TuTu Atwell and the Rams have agreed to a one year, $10 million extension

Demarcus Robinson: Last year Demarcus Robinson signed his extension before free agency opened. And, at $4M, i was certainly a favorable deal for the Rams. The Rams would be wise to bring him back and it’s not easy to find a guy that can lineup as a split end and deal with the punishment he does. That doesn’t necessarily mean he should be the WR2 on the team in targets but he’s a great WR3 in a team that uses three WRs more than most other teams.

Jordan Whittington: Whittington had some preseason hype but couldn't really carve out a role on offense despite the injuries to the top guys. He did return kicks which should keep him on the team moving forward which is always an accomplishment for a sixth round pick. He's worth holding in deep dynasty leagues just to see what happens with Kupp.

Xavier SmithXavier Smith served as the primary punt returner and also helped with kick returns. He’s under contract for 2025 on an affordable deal so no reason he wouldn’t be back.

Tyler JohnsonTyler Johnson did contribute on offense to some degree, especially when guys were hurt. But he didn’t really make a splash when given the chance. He also doesn’t really play special teams at all, which is important towards the back end of the roster. I think they let him walk as an unrestricted free agent.

RAMS WR FREE AGENCY TAKE: Cooper Kupp told us that they told us he’s gone. Let’s assume that’s the case. I guess they could just bring back guys they had in-house and roll with something like Nacua, Demarcus Robinson, and TuTu Atwell. The Bills made it pretty far doing something similar. But that’s less of a fun discussion for the offseason.

Given the track record of Les Snead, the draft is obviously a source of upside for them. But let’s say they do decide to take a shot via free agency. Nacua is versatile enough that they could move him around and try their hand with virtually any type of pass-catcher. What if they look at their 37-year-old quarterback Mattew Stafford and decide to pair him with one of the older WRs out there that they think have a year or two left in the tank? Here’s what those options look like.

UPDATE TuTu Atwell and the Rams have agreed to a one year, $10 million extension

POSSIBLE FREE AGENT OPTIONS: Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Amari Cooper, Brandin Cooks

Rams Tight End Depth Chart

Tyler HigbeeThe Rams already confirmed that the 32-year-old Higbee will be back in 2025. Tyler Higbee missed a huge chunk of the season recovering from ACL surgery but played alright while being eased back in. He’ll be on the last year of his deal in 2025.

For fantasy football, it would have to be a pretty deep league to try to compete with Higbee. I just can’t see the Rams trading Cooper Kupp and making Puka Nacua and Tyler Higbee the top two targets on the team. That doesn’t sound like a team that is going to be competing in the NFL playoffs. But I could be wrong.

Colby ParkinsonColby Parkinson was given a pretty big opportunity. Not just with Higbee out but with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua missing time. And he didn’t do a whole lot with it. The quote from the article linked above where Sean McVay said the Rams were a “different team” on offense with Higbee out there is not good for Parkinson either. He’s under contract for the next two years and there’s not much benefit in cutting him so I imagine he’ll be there for depth.

Davis AllenThe Rams drafted Davis Allen in 2023 but he’s yet to really carve out a role. This was his chance this year and Coby Parkinson kept him on the backburner until Higbee returned. The former 5th round pick can be cut with very little dead cap but also less than $1M in savings. His contributions on special teams could keep him on the roster but he’s not necessarily a lock.

Hunter LongHunter Long came over via trade from the Dolphins. He was never able to become much more than a sporadic blocking tight end, so I don’t expect him to be a priority to bring back as an unrestricted free agent.

  • Reserves/Futures: N/A

RAMS TE FREE AGENCY TAKE: The truth here is that the free agent tight end market is thin. The Rams don’t likely want guys that only catch passes and don’t really block inline because that’s not the scheme. So, guys like Mike Gesicki or Juwan Johnson are probably out. And the guys who can block aren’t great pass-catchers, like Tyler Conklin and Austin Hooper. If the Rams are going to upgrade this unit, it would likely be via the draft.
