NFL Week 6 arrived in style with a high-scoring battle between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. We had a good night of betting between the article here on the website and the Fantasy Alarm Show parlay which hit at +575, but now we turn our attention to Sunday’s games and our NFL Best Bets for Week 6.

Last Sundaywe went 4-3 on our NFL picks and turned a small profit thanks to plus-money odds on Aaron Rodgers throwing at least one interception, but 1-2 on game bets is not my style nor something I want to see again.

With the point-spreads being as tight as they were last week, I thought exploiting some bad offenses with some unders would turn out well, but the defenses that showed up were apparently worse. Not a huge worry, though, as again, we were right there at the end of the game for at least one of them. A blocked field goal at the end of the Giants game was the big killer.

Onwards and upwards, as always. There are a lot of interesting things to look at for this week, so let’s check in with the latest Vegas odds, make our NFL predictions and see who we like for our NFL Best Bets for Week 6

NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets For Week 6 Sunday, 10/13

This week is going to be quite interesting for our NFL picks. We’ve got a lot of changes to work with as there’s been a colossal quarterback upheaval. Spencer Rattler, Drake Maye and Aiden O’Connell are all making their starting debuts this week while Will Levis, Justin Herbert and Anthony Richardson should be returning from their respective injuries.

We also have two situations where the starter might not be the finisher as all eyes are watching Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh as well as Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston in Cleveland. All of this needs to be baked into our NFL predictions and thoughts on prospective game-flow as quarterback is the most polarizing position.

We may just have to steer clear of the Browns and Steelers for our NFL Best Bets for Week 6, though, as you never really know how a team will react to a mid-game change. We don’t have the same data for how a team fares when there is a mid-game change at the position as we do for when a team fires a head coach mid-season (we’ll discuss that when we do our Monday Night Football analysis).

We can make assumptions as to how we think certain players will react, but it’s not enough to make accurate NFL picks. But that’s just two games. We’ve got plenty of other exciting games to look at for our NFL Best Bets for Week 6.

Lions vs. Cowboys Best Bet: Sunday, October 13th

I’ve got a lot of thoughts on this game because I think too many people are looking at this game total and are expecting some crazy shootout between the Lions and Steelers. But I think people are missing the fact that Dan Campbell is a run-first guy and the key match-up to focus on is David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs versus Dallas’ 31st-ranked run defense.

Forget about the Steelers not running the ball effectively against the Cowboys last week. They were missing three offensive linemen and Arthur Smith thought he could fool the defense by showing run but throwing instead. Campbell is not going to make that mistake, especially here on the road. In order to neutralize Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, you keep them off the field.

Long, sustained drives will do just that and when you have two running backs of such high-quality, you lean on them. I’m tempted to take the under in this one too, but for now, we’ll just bet the road favorite.

Texans vs. Patriots Best Bet: Sunday, October 13th

While the Texans are 4-1 on the season their wins have not come against strong opponents. Even their last match-up against the Bills wasn’t all that as Josh Allen was rendered unconscious at one point, James Cook got banged up and they were without Khalil Shakir, arguably their top receiver.

The wins have all been by less than a touchdown and now they walk into New England a seven-point favorite? Won’t this Patriots team, energized by starting rookie Drake Maye, put up just as much of a fight as the Jaguar or Bears? Sorry, Patriots fans. Not this week.

This is the week the Texans defense goes off. They need to, given the absence of Nico Collins and the possibility that Joe Mixon misses another game. While the Texans haven’t forced a bunch of turnovers, they rank fifth in the league against both the run and the pass and should have little difficulty stifling Drake Maye

They can sell out a little to stop the run and that should force Maye into some typical rookie mistakes. I don’t love the fact that the public is so heavily on the Texans to cover, but we’re going to side with them anyway.

Chargers vs. Broncos Best Bet: Sunday, October 13th

Not gonna lie – there’s a bit of nervousness here when it comes to betting this game. The Broncos have won three in a row, their defense has been fantastic and they’re 4-1 against the spread this season. Sean Payton and Joe Lombardi seem to have Bo Nix in a great spot and they’re running the football effectively.

Meanwhile, the Chargers, who are just coming off their bye, are trying to work Justin Herbert back into a groove, are still trying to get healthy on the offensive line and might also be without Gus Edwards. The public money is all over Denver and all of that just makes me cringe.

But I don’t want to go contrarian here because the Chargers are a run-heavy team and Denver has such strong cornerbacks that they can sell out a little bit to stop the run. I think this is a low-scoring, old-school game and when that tends to be the case, I like being on the side getting the points.
