2023 Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report Week 8

MLB Injury Updates Hitters

Manny Machado, 3B, San Diego Padres (Hand)

Machado has missed a week of action and now we know he’ll miss at least two more. The Padres put him on the Injured List a few days ago with a fractured hand after getting hit by a pitch last week. Ha-Seong Kim will continue filling in at third base until Machado is healthy.

Ha-Seong Kim 2B San Diego Padres (Knee)

Kim fouled a ball off his knee and had to get tests done to make sure there wasn't any damage done. Consider Kim day-to-day for now unless the swelling in his knee becomes massive and if that's the case, he could be looking at a few days off.

Byron Buxton, OF, Minnesota Twins (Calf)

Back in action.

Eloy Jimenez, OF, Chicago White Sox (Appendectomy)

It looks like Jimenez will be returning soon to the White Sox lineup. After undergoing an appendectomy procedure a couple of weeks ago, Jimenez is apparently “ahead of schedule” according to manager Pedro Grifol. We could see the Chicago outfielder start a rehab stint in the minors soon and potentially back in our lineups next week.

Hanser Alberto, 2B, Chicago White Sox (Shoulder)

Alberto hasn't been placed on the injured list yet, but he continues to miss games and we haven't seen him on the field all week due to a shoulder injury. Romy Gonzalez will continue filling in for Alberto until he's healthy enough to play.

Jorge Polanco, 2B, Minnesota Twins (Hamstring)

Polanco has a strained hamstring and after receiving additional tests on the muscle, we should know in the next couple of days how long he'll be out. The Twins put him on the Injured List over the weekend after we hadn’t seen him play for almost a week. Donovan Solano will draw more starts in his place.

Carlos Correa SS Minnesota Twins (Foot)

It's a bit surprising that Correa hasn't been put on the injured list yet if he really is suffering from plantar fasciitis, but he's sat for the Twins last couple of games and he's likely going to have to rest his foot some more. Kyle Farmer has started at SS while Correa has sat.

Joey Gallo 1B Minnesota Twins (Hamstring)

Gallo is dealing with a minor hamstring tweak and he missed the Twins last game and we'll have to see after the team had an off day if he's ready to return to the lineup as Minnesota gets ready to battle Toronto this weekend. Alex Kirilloff filled in at first base last game.

Trevor Larnach OF Minnesota Twins (Illness)

Larnach is sick and the Twins decided to put him on the injured list and he'll miss another week of action. Minnesota is dealing with a few outfielder injuries and Kyle Garlick could end up starting more.

Cody Bellinger, OF, Chicago Cubs (Knee)

After not playing for a few games due to a knee injury, the Cubs put Bellinger on the Injured List and he’ll be out for at least another 4-5 days. Mike Tauchman could play more and Christopher Morel can rotate to centerfield.

Joey Bart, C, San Francisco Giants (Groin)

Bart has a strained groin and we haven’t seen him play in five days. He’ll now be out for at least another week. Blake Sabol and Patrick Bailey are options to fill in behind the plate.

Santiago Espinal, 2B, Toronto Blue Jays (Hamstring)

Espinal is day-to-day with a sore hamstring. He missed the Blue Jays' last game and we’ll see if he’s healthy enough to start the week active.

Jose Altuve 2B Houston Astros (Illness)

Altuve has been sick this week and missed his last game and after the Astros had the day off on Thursday, we'll have to see if he's feeling well enough to play for the start of the Astros series against the Athletics. If Altuve needs another game or two to recover, Mauricio Dubon will fill in at second base.

Ezequiel Duran SS Texas Rangers (Back)

Duran has a sore back and he sat out the Rangers last game, but it's not looking like he'll be put on the injured list and the Rangers were off on Thursday and Duran could be back in action for Texas series versus Baltimore.

Danny Jansen C Toronto Blue Jays (Groin)

We're waiting on test results regarding Jansen's groin but it's looking like that he'll need some time off to recover from a strain, we just don't know how severe the strain is and if Jansen is put on the injured list, the Blue Jays still have enough depth between Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho.

Santiago Espinal 2B Toronto Blue Jays (Hamstring)

Espinal ended up getting put on the injured list with a sore hamstring earlier in the week and he'll be out for another few days.

Ramon Urias 2B Baltimore Orioles (Hamstring)

Urias has missed the last few weeks of action with an injured hamstring, but new reports indicate that he could be ready to return to the Orioles over the next few days as he's been playing in rehab games.

Brenton Doyle OF Colorado Rockies (Knee)

Doyle may need to sit out for a game or two after hurting his knee on the field, but there doesn't seem to be major concern surrounding his knee and he's currently day-to-day.

AJ Pollock OF Seattle Mariners (Leg)

The Mariners held Pollock out because his leg has been sore and we'll have to see if he's ready to return to the lineup for the start of their series versus the Pirates.

MLB Injury Updates Pitchers

Julio Urias, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers (Hamstring)

Urias will miss the next couple of weeks with a strained hamstring and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him need additional time off. The Dodgers put him on the Injured List over the weekend.

Logan Webb, SP, San Francisco Giants (Back)

The Giants decided to give Webb a few extra days to rest his back before throwing him back out on the hill and he's slated to start on Saturday. If he's pushed back again, it's a bad sign.

Wade Miley, SP, Milwaukee Brewers (Back)

Miley has a bad back strain and was placed on the Injured List last week. We then found out a few days ago that Miley could be out for the next two months with this back injury. He likely won't return to the mound until after the All-Star break.

Eric Lauer SP Milwaukee Brewers (Shoulder)

The Brewers put Lauer on the injured list earlier in the week because of a shoulder injury and he joins Brandon Woodruff and Wade Miley on the sidelines. Julio Teheran had to start for the Brewers and we haven't seen him pitch in a couple of years.

Mike Clevinger, SP, Chicago White Sox (Wrist)

Clevinger is on the Injured List with a sore wrist and will miss two weeks of action. We’ll see who the White Sox choose to fill in for Clevinger’s spot in the rotation.

Brad Keller, P, Kansas City Royals (Shoulder)

Keller will be out until the end of the month with a shoulder injury. We'll see if he’s looking at more time off the field after that, but for now, he’ll be out of the Royals rotation.

Peyton Battenfield, SP, Cleveland Guardians (Shoulder)

Battenfield got put on the Injured List a few days ago because of swelling in his shoulder and he’ll sit for the next few weeks. Hunter Gaddis will start for the Guardians this evening.

Dylan Lee, RP, Atlanta Braves (Shoulder)

Lee is experiencing swelling in his shoulder and the Braves put him on the Injured List a few days ago. He’ll sit and heal for the next few weeks.

Michael Tonkin RP Atlanta Braves (Neck)

Tonkin will sit for the next few weeks after being placed on the injured list due to a strained neck. Tonkin has thrown over 26 innings and has a 3.42 ERA and a WHIP of less than 1.

Derek Law, RP, Cincinnati Reds (Elbow)

Law won’t pitch for another week at minimum as he has a strain in his elbow. We'll see if the pain decreases, but, there’s a chance he’ll need more time to recover.

Vince Velasquez P Pittsburgh Pirates (Elbow)

He's missed most of the month due to swelling in his elbow, but, he's on the verge of returning to the Pirates and could potentially start within the next few days.
