Rockies signed RHP Peyton Battenfield to a minor league contract.
Battenfield has latched on with the Rockies just a few weeks after being cut loose by the Mets towards the end of spring training. The 26-year-old righty holds a pedestrian 5.19 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 27/12 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (seven appearances, six starts) in the majors.

Battenfield will shuttle back to Triple-A after only a couple of days with the big league club in order to free up a spot for Anthony Kay. The 26-year-old righty didn’t appear in a game during his brief stay with the Mets.

He’ll take the place of Jeff Brigham in the Mets’ bullpen. Battenfield made seven appearances (six starts) during his time with the Guardians this season — posting a troublesome 5.19 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 27/12 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 innings. He’ll provide the Mets with a fresh arm with the ability to work multiple innings.
