NFL DFS Week 12 TE Coach: Trey McBride, Brock Bowers & Zach Ertz
Published: Nov 23, 2024
Taysom Hill took the fantasy world by storm this past week - if you didn’t have him you were in a bit of trouble.
Which is a shame because some of our favorites like Brock Bowers and Hunter Henry put together decent weeks. Luckily for us, Taysom Hill is on bye this week so he can’t hurt us.
The world will just have to use a real tight end in their TE spot, I guess.
NFL DFS Week 12 TE Coach For FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy
In fact, there are SIX teams on bye this week. Next week we get all sorts of fun slates with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and no teams on bye.
This week we’ll have to dig deep and figure out how to navigate the shallowest group of teams we’ll see until real NFL playoffs. Let’s take a look at our NFL DFS Week 12 TE Coach!
NFL DFS TE Top Tier Picks For Week 12
Brock Bowers, TE Las Vegas Raiders - DraftKings: $5,800 | FanDuel: $7,200
Back when the Raiders had Darren Waller, any serious fantasy gamers almost HAD to make at least one lineup with him. Because he was one of the only tight ends that would regularly have games with 15+ targets. It’s just unheard of in the fantasy space. And it can completely break the slate.
And that’s where we currently live with Brock Bowers. The Raiders have no qualms about peppering him with targets if that’s what it’s going to take. Pat Surtain on the outside is going to take a WR out of the game on every play.
That’s what happened to DeAndre Hopkins when he got only five targets against Denver. And Travis Kelce got 13. We cannot afford to NOT have Bowers in a couple lineups right now. And his price isn’t out of line on either platform.
Trey McBride, TE Arizona Cardinals - DraftKings: $5,600 | FanDuel: $6,700
There are two schools of thought with Travis Kelce. One is that, after losing to the Bills, they are going to come out firing on all cylinders and destroy the Panthers. The other is that they know they can easily handle the Panthers and might take it easy on their star players once they establish a lead. I’m a little concerned by the latter.
With Trey McBride we don’t have those concerns. These teams are battling for the division. And they play twice over the next three weeks. McBride is a focal point of the offense And has been one of the tight end leaders in route participation and target share all season. He’s currently third in yards and only 8 behind George Kittle.
He oddly doesn’t have a single receiving TD or we would view him differently. With Tariq Woolen and Devin Witherspoon on the outside, I just can’t imagine a world where McBride isn’t heavily involved here.
NFL DFS TE Mid-Tier Picks For NFL Week 12
Hunter Henry, TE New England Patriots- DraftKings: $4,000 | FanDuel: $5,200
We have to ask ourselves some questions. How many tight ends lead their team in routes run? How Many tight ends lead their team in targets? Receptions? Yards? It’s not a lot. And most of them are fairly obviously, and rightfully, priced up.
Hunter Henry leads the Patriots in all of those things. And Alex Van Pelt, just last week, told the Rich & Keefe Show on WEEI that the player they try to scheme up the most is Hunter Henry. He just got 9 targets this past week and they only increased his price from $3,900 to $4,000.
It’s only a matter of time until he has one of those big target games and also tacks on a touchdown (or two). And that will blow his $4,000 price tag out of the water.
Zach Ertz, TE Washington Commanders, DraftKings: $3,800 | FanDuel: $5,300
Folks are going crazy for Will Dissly. And I get it - it’s a fun story. Consensus rankings put Dissly at TE7 this week and Zach Ertz at TE14. When they are virtually the same guy. In fact, over the last 6 weeks since Dissly started getting consistent targets, Ertz has scored more PPR points.
They are both guys that need targets and TDs because they don’t offer much in the YAC department. They both have good matchups this week. But Washington actually has the second highest implied point total behind only the Lions. Ertz not only gets end zone targets but he doesn’t have to compete with the likes of Hayden Hurst.
This isn’t so much to bash Will Dissly, we like Will Dissly. It’s to highlight that there is a discrepancy in how fantasy gamers view Zach Ertz right now vs. the field. And, when it comes to a game like this, finding those guys that are undervalued is everything.
NFL DFS TE Value Picks For NFL Week 12
Theo Johnson, TE New York Giants - DraftKings: $2,900 | FanDuel: $4,800
Ja’Tavion Sanders will be a popular play in this range. And I’ll probably make one lineup with him. But I am concerned that Tommy Tremble is back this week and, when he’s active, they split those snaps. Plus Adam Thielen is back. Theo Johnson does not split snaps. Before they bye he played 69 of 75 snaps.
The bet here is pretty simple. Johnson has been more involved lately. The Buccaneers are a great matchup for tight ends. And we don’t know who Tommy DeVito will lean on. He’s much less mobile than Daniel Jones so maybe he’ll dump it down more to our guy Theo. It’s worth taking a look at at this price.
Luke Schoonmaker, TE Dallas Cowboys - DraftKings: $2,500 | FanDuel: $4,500
This one should fall under the category of “too obvious”. Since the Cowboys played Monday, Jake Ferguson would need to clear concussion protocol in six days which rarely happens. Schoonmaker garnered 10 targets last week after Ferguson went down meaning this one won’t fly under the radar.
Which makes it all the more strange that he’s the bare minimum price on DraftKings. Everyone saw what happened. They know what is going on. I expect this one to be a fairly popular play but you almost have to make some lineups with the “free square”.
Guys priced in this range are often healthy inactives, not getting 10 targets. Four or five targets would do it at this price.
NFL DFS TE Fades For Week 12
George Kittle, TE San Francisco 49ers - DraftKings: $6,000 | FanDuel: $8,000
George Kittle has a decent matchup with Green Bay which is alluring. But there are a lot of things I don’t like about this situation. With Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall back, the WR group is back to not starting the likes of Chris Conley.
And the bigger problem is Christian McCaffrey. Jordan Mason got 12 targets over 9 games. CMC has gotten 12 targets over two. Add on the injury issues for George Kittle and I’m just going to stay away for now.
Tucker Kraft, TE Green Bay Packers - DraftKings: $4,400 | FanDuel: $6,000
We warned folks about Tucker Kraft last week. And there will certainly be people out there trying to catch some sort of “bounceback” or “get right” game.
This week against Fred Warner and DeVondre Campbell is just not the week to do it. There are too many other players in that range like Hunter Henry, Zach Ertz, Jonnu Smith etc. that are better options.
