Cowboys vs. Eagles Predictions, Picks & Odds: NFL Week 17, Sunday 12/29

When the schedule makers sat down and put the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Philadelphia Eagles on the board for Week 17, they expected Dak Prescott vs. Jalen Hurts.
Instead, we are very likely getting Cooper Rush vs. Kenny Pickett. Not the game we were hoping for but still a meaningful game in the grand scheme of things.
Whether Jalen Hurts clears concussion protocol or not, the Eagles are still battling with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings for the NFC’s top seed and the bye week.
That goes out this window if they lose this week and it also opens the door for the Washington Commanders to win the NFC East. Those narratives will naturally factor into our Cowboys vs. Eagles predictions for Week 17.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Predictions For NFL Week 17, Sunday 12/29
Being division rivals, these teams have played over 130 times in their history. The Eagles won 34-6 earlier this season and they split games in each of 2023 and 2022. The Eagles will still be favored here even if Jalen Hurts does not play this week.
The Eagles suffered a tough and meaningful loss last week to the Washington Commanders. Prior to that they were on a roll having won 10 straight. The Cowboys have quietly climbed to a 7-8 record behind Cooper Rush though the division and conference are strong enough that their playoff hopes are over.
In the AFC, there are three 7-8 teams in the Colts, Dolphins, and Bengals that are technically still alive.
Dallas Cowboys: CeeDee Lamb Shut Down
The Cowboys had been leaning heavily on CeeDee Lamb and Rico Dowdle on offense in recent weeks. And Lamb was playing through some serious shoulder issues. With the team eliminated, they opted to shut him down and prevent further damage.
That will leave Brandin Cooks, Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, and Jalen Brooks as the top options. Both of the Jalens are listed as questionable which could see a bigger role for guys like KaVontae Turpin or Jonathan Mingo.
On defense the Cowboys haven’t been at full strength all year. They missed Daron Bland for a big chunk early on and now Trevon Diggs is set to have season ending surgery.
Despite that, the Cowboys have actually been better vs. the pass than the rush. FTN Fantasy’s DVOA statistic has the Cowboys ranked as the 29th team against the run this year.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts In Doubt
It’s not looking good at this stage for Jalen Hurts to clear concussion protocol and play this week. That would put Kenny Pickett at the helm for this one.
He’ll be without tight end Dallas Goedert but AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith offer enough firepower to get it done. Plus, Saquon Barkley should be able to run all over Dallas as he chases Eric Dickerson’s record.
The Eagles' defense has been one of the best in the league based on most metrics. They allow the second-fewest passing yards of any team while also being top 10 against the run. FTN’s DVOA metric has them graded as the league’s second-best defense behind only the Houston Texans.
Cowboys vs. Eagles Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
As promised, the latest Cowboys vs. Eagles odds can be found below courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Point Spread: Dallas Cowboys -7 (-110) vs. Philadelphia Eagles +7 (-110)
- Money Line: Dallas Cowboys (+250) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-350)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 38 (-110) vs. Under 38 (-110)
Cowboys vs. Eagles Predictions: Jake Ferguson Under 37.5 Yards (-120 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
Folks might be surprised by this one. Last week we bet on the over for Jake Ferguson receptions which hit as he had 6 catches on a whopping 9 targets.
So, with CeeDee Lamb out, you would think we’d be even higher on Jake Ferguson this week. But that’s not the case. The Eagles defense has been one of the top in the league against the tight end. They are top five in both DVOA and fantasy points allowed.
They have allowed the second fewest receiving yards to tight ends behind only the Lions. And that’s largely because of Zack Braun who greats out as the top coverage linebacker in the NFL per Pro Football Focus, even ahead of Fred Warner who has been a problem for tight ends all year.
They will still probably try to throw to Ferguson. Last time these teams played he caught 4 passes. But he only managed 24 yards. Ferguson runs a 4.81 forty, so he doesn’t really break off big chunk plays. I think the Eagles' defense manages to smother whatever Jake Ferguson tried to get going.
We’ll go under 37.5 yards in this game that is expected to be low scoring and rainy.

49ers signed No. 11 pick EDGE Mykel Williams to a four-year contract.
The deal is worth $24.9 million and is fully guaranteed. As is the case with all first-round picks, his contract includes a fifth-year option. The 49ers shed hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts this offseason and the bulk of those savings came on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end was an obvious position of need and Williams was widely regarded as the best pass-rusher on the board when 49ers GM John Lynch was on the clock. Williams totaled five sacks in 2024 and left Georgia with 14 sacks across three seasons as a starter.
Vikings signed No. 24 pick OG Donovan Jackson to a four-year contract.
It’s a fully guaranteed deal worth $17.2 million with a fifth-year team option. Minnesota taking Jackson with the 24th-overall pick came as a bit of a surprise on draft night, but the Vikings needed offensive line help and Jackson was considered worthy of a first-round pick by some draftniks. He was primarily a left guard at Ohio State but successfully kicked out to tackle for the bulk of his senior season. Jackson is likely fated for guard duties in Minnesota, but the positional versatility remains a plus.
Titans claimed Anfernee Orji off waivers from the Saints.
Orji played primarily on special teams in New Orleans but was credited with two starts across 16 appearances. He totaled 30 combined tackles and a pair of TFLs. Orji will need to continue seeing work on special teams to make the Titans’ roster.
Patriots signed RB Trayveon Williams, formerly of the Bengals.
Henderson was passed on the Cincinnati depth chart by Chase Brown last year and the team even traded for Khalil Herbert midseason. Despite having no role on offense, Williams was active for all 17 games as a special teamer. He will likely hold a similar role in New England if he cracks the team’s 53-man roster.
Free agent RB Jordan Mims worked out for the Patriots.
The Pats also worked out former Bengals running back Trayveon Williams. Mims ran 20 times for 70 yards in 2024 while adding 12 catches for 71 yards through the air. He also got some run on special teams. The Patriots are looking for some extra depth at running back, but there isn’t room for another fantasy-relevant option behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
Jaguars signed TE Quintin Morris, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.
Morris is purely a blocking tight end. He caught just 15 passes during his three years with the Bills, though he did manage to find the end zone three times. Morris will back up Brenton Strange in Jacksonville.
