The Eagles will not tender an offer to restricted free agent WR Britain Covey, making him a free agent.
Covey caught just 7-of-8 targets for 34 yards last year but is capable of contributing as a punt returner. The shifty, 5-foot-8, 173-pound player forced six missed tackles on six total punt returns, averaging 7.7 yards per. A new team will likely come calling at some point.
Eagles WR/PR Britain Covey (neck) will not play in Super Bowl LIX against the Chiefs.
Covey practiced in full throughout the week, but the Eagles don’t have a roster spot to spare for him. He is currently on injured reserve and would take up a roster spot if activated. Cooper DeJean will handle the point return duties versus Kansas City.
Eagles WR/PR Britain Covey (neck) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Covey is technically still on injured reserve but the Eagles activated his 21-day practice window earlier today. While he is not expected to meaningfully contribute as a wide receiver, his return to the primary punt returner role is certainly helpful.
Eagles WR/PR Britain Covey said he suffered a broken scapula in Week 3’s win over the Saints and will be out for six weeks.
Injuries continue to pile up for the Eagles receiver room, as A.J. Brown (hamstring), DeVonta Smith (concussion), and now Covey are all dealing with various ailments. Covey’s six-week absence will land him on injured reserve. Meanwhile the Eagles’ top receiver in Week 4 is setting up to be Jahan Dotson if Brown and Smith are unable to go.
