2024 Player Outlook
2023 saw Hurts finish as the QB2 in fantasy football as his rushing upside continued to fuel his fantasy production thanks to the nearly unstoppable “tush push”. Hurts rushed for 15 touchdown last season, besting the 13 touchdowns he had in 2022. From a passing standpoint, he threw for 3,858 yards with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. What to expect in 2024? Probably more of the same. Yes, the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley but we've seen Hurts still be effective over the past two seasons with an effective running game, because again, his production is being fueled by the rushing touchdowns and with the NFL competition committee choosing not to ban the “tush push” for the upcoming season, the Eagles will likely continue to utilize this play when they get in the red zone.

NFL owners tabled a decision on whether to ban the so-called tush push.
Proposed by the Packers, who could not stop the Jalen Hurts-led tush push in last year’s postseason, the tush push ban will be kicked down the road to another owners meeting. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones said 16 teams opposed the rule to ban the tush push. “There will be much more conversation, with many teams in favor of having the NFL’s competition committee continue to study the play,” Jones said. NFL head coaches have spoken out against the tush push in part because they can’t stop it and partly due to concerns about injuries, even though the tush push does not have a high injury rate. A ban of the short-yardage play would constitute a major blow to the Eagles offense.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini believes the move to ban the tush push is “getting more momentum.”
The Packers made a move to ban the tush push earlier this offseason, but soon, teams will have a chance to vote on the rule change. The Eagles, Jalen Hurts, and his fantasy managers have all benefitted from their signature play that became a mainstay in their offense in 2022, but now, it’s possible the league will get the 24 votes needed to ban the play before the start of next season. The league moved to ban the same play last year, but fell well short of the votes needed to implement the change. We’ll see if things break differently this time around.
Packers proposed a ban on the “tush push.”
It’s one of a few rules tweaks proposed by teams for the 2025 season, and it comes after Green Bay’s defense was totally unable to stop the Eagles’ use of the tush push in their postseason loss to Philadelphia in January. The tush push — a play in which the QB is pushed from behind by a teammate to convert a short yardage play — has proven nearly unstoppable for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense. The combination of an elite offensive line and Hurts’ unmatched lower body strength has made the tush push a cheat code for the Eagles over the past few seasons. Some teams with far less powerful quarterbacks — including the Packers — have used tight ends to run the tush push. The Eagles in 2024 converted 71 percent of their fourth down attempts, the fourth highest rate in the NFL.
NFL EVP of Football Operations, Troy Vincent, announced an unnamed team has proposed to ban the “Tush Push.”
This isn’t the first time a ban for the play made famous by the Eagles under head coach Nick Sirianni has been presented. Last year, Vincent said a proposal would not be presented during the offseason, so we’ll see if said proposal is actually brought to the table this time around. The league would require for it to pass, and in the past, it’s been reported there wouldn’t be enough support for a ban if it did come to a vote. No team will ever admit it, but the push for a ban likely stems from the fact the Eagles are excellent at executing a play the rest of the league hasn’t quite perfected yet. Whether or not that proves enough to allow for a vote is to be determined, but we saw the same argument fall flat last year.
