There are some great games on this slate, no doubt. Some high over/unders, some meaningful matchups, some close spreads. But none of them have quite the full package that Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys has. When you have two teams like this, a 48 point over/under, and a one point spread, that’s a recipe for fantasy football greatness.

These two teams only square off every four years which makes our Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys predictions and picks that much harder to make. We’ll need to dig into the data, the spreads, schemes, and the injury reports to get a read on this one.

Ravens vs. Cowboys Predictions For NFL Week 3, Sunday 9/22

What makes this matchup so much fun is that these teams are both great, but they do it with different mentalities. The beauty of the NFL is that there’s not just one way to build a team. And there’s not one approach that can beat all others.

The Dallas Cowboys have more of a high-flying approach, airing it out with CeeDee Lamb and company. Some issues with the line and run game might be a part of that. The Ravens on the other hand play smash mouth football. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry running behind an offense that uses a lot of multiple tight end sets and fullbacks is a scary proposition.

Baltimore Ravens: Derrick Henry & Lamar Jackson Brute-Force Run Game

The Ravens, at the core, want to be a run first team. And why wouldn’t they be with Lamar Jackson? The run pass option (RPO) between those two is just as scary for defenses as we expected it to be. Henry has found the endzone in each of the first two games and Lamar has already run for 167 yards through two games.

It hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows though as both the Chiefs and Raiders were able to disrupt that gameplan a bit which led the Ravens to have to pivot to Justice Hill while playing from behind. Both games were incredibly close (the Chiefs game literally came down to toe) but the Ravens have fallen to 0-2 so far this season.

On defense the Ravens have surprisingly allowed the most passing yards in the league through two games (though playing Patrick Mahomes and Davante Adams can do that). Safety Eddie Jackson chalked it up to “miscommunication”, but they’ve got another big test this week with CeeDee Lamb coming to town. Last year Lamb had one of the best WR seasons of all time.

Dallas Cowboys: CeeDee Lamb Air Show

Based on the way the offseason went here, it’s not surprising that this team has been a bit one dimensional on offense. They lost Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadisz on the offensive line and didn’t add any major pieces to the run game (unless you consider the return of Ezekiel Elliott a major piece). In fact, they didn’t add much in the pass game either. So much for Jerry Jones saying they were going “all in”.

That doesn’t mean this team can’t make some noise with the pieces they have though - they did last year. We watched Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp target-hog their way to a Super Bowl a couple years ago. Kind of like the Buffalo Bills during the Stefon Diggs era, it feels like CeeDee Lamb HAS to have a good game for this team to succeed. He did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday with an ankle, but he should be good to go.

The good news is that they do have a top tier defense - one that can create pressure and turnovers to give the offense a short field. It hurts that superstar DaRon Bland is on the IR but guys Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs can turn the game around in an instant if you let them get too close to the football. Unfortunately, they might be without 2023 first round pick Mazi Smith as he has yet to practice this week with a back issue.

Ravens vs. Cowboys Predictions: Baltimore Ravens Money Line (-115 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

I think Eddie Jackson is on to something with the comments we mentioned above. This Ravens secondary IS better than what they have shown so far. Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton specifically are top players in this league at their position, yet Humphrey allowed 6 catches last week per Pro Football Focus and Hamilton allowed 7. I don’t think that happens again here.

The Cowboys are a little too one dimensional and, though I don’t doubt they will find ways to move CeeDee Lamb around to get him the ball, I think the Ravens can find a way to confuse Dak Prescott with their Cover 6 shenanigans. Not to mention Odafe Oweh has been a terror for quarterbacks so far this year - he has 5 pressures and 3 sacks already through two games. This might be the game where Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and their multiple tight end sets with Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely actually stick to the ground game.

Based on that, I’ve got the Ravens winning this one. Even though it’s rarer than you would think for games to be decided by 1 point (less than 5% of the time), we’ll just take the Baltimore money line (-115 at BetMGM) and take that pesky point out of the equation with our Ravens vs. Cowboys predictions.
