NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Saints WR Deonte Harty (turf toe) is expected to miss "a few months."
Harty has operated as a part-time player for the Saints this season, recording just two receptions for 13 yards on two targets. It's possible that his turf to injury will ultimately be season-ending, but Harty is seeking a second opinion. The 25-year-old (in December) will be a free agent after the season, and will likely find a role as a situational deep threat, even if his 2022 season has come to an end.
Saints extended a second-round tender to restricted free agent WR Deonte Harris.
Deonte Harris caught 3-of-4 targets for 24 yards in New Orleans' Week 18 win over Atlanta, adding a nine-yard rush.
The extension of the running game wasn't needed quite as badly with the running game actually working. Harris lost games to a suspension for a DUI, the reserve/COVID-19 list, and a mid-season hamstring injury. When he played, he was easily the most explosive Saints target, averaging 16.5 yards per reception, adding a rushing score, and returning kicks and punts. Harris would be a good No. 4 option and a passable No. 3 option with his ability to generate big plays even though he's just 5-foot-6. He'll be a restricted free agent, and given the lack of cap space the Saints are working with, could again be a major part of their passing game in 2022.
Deonte Harris caught both of his targets for 23 yards in New Orleans' Week 17 win over the Panthers.
Harris was deployed as New Orleans' No. 3 wideout in his first game back from suspension, running 16 routes to Marquez Callaway's team-high 29 and Lil'Jordan Humphrey's 25. With Callaway emerging as Taysom Hill's go-to option, there's admittedly little room for Harris to make an impact outside of two-game and Showdown DFS slates, especially once Tre'Quan Smith is cleared to return.
