Best Fantasy Football Stashes Ahead Of Week 8: Backups, Waiver Wire, More

I get it. Your team is a WAGON. Your lineup is loaded with studs and even your weaker positions are solid. That doesn’t mean you can’t continue to improve. There are plenty of ways you can batten down the hatches and plan for the playoffs. And prevent your teammates from finding those league winners along the way.
That’s what this article is about. The guys that might not offer much immediate value. But they could have HUGE value if things break right. With your team, players aren’t going to crack your lineup unless they have big value anyway right? At the very least, you can handcuff up those studs and make sure you are ready for fantasy playoffs.
Best Fantasy Football Stashes For Week 8
We are ideally going to look at players that are rostered in less than 50% of leagues on Yahoo, ESPN or Sleeper Fantasy as those are the guys that are generally actually available.
We know there are leagues of varying sizes and depths so we’ll try to cover our bases. And we’ll obviously let you know what it is that makes these players the best fantasy football stashes in Week 8. So, let’s dive in!
NFL Week 8 Quarterback Stashes
Bo Nix - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 13% | ESPN: 16% | Sleeper: 23%
We talked about this one in the Streamers article so check the write up over there but Bo Nix has proven that he’s willing to run the football. I understand he’s not super athletic but he’s more athletic than Daniel Jones and we spent a long time saying “Daniel Jones can’t be a QB1” a couple years ago while he ran his way into being a QB1. Bo Nix is currently QB13 on the season so it’s not crazy.
The reality though is that zero teams are on bye this week so you probably have a better option to start. And then he faces Baltimore and Kansas City. His schedule clears up a bit but he’s really more of a stash than a guy you add and start.
Will Levis, QB, Tennesse Titans, Yahoo: 11% | ESPN: 10% | Sleeper: 21%
Will Levis was not great. He was not even good. But the reality here is that he only played three games before he hurt his shoulder. In those three games, he faced two tough defenses with the Jets and Bears then had a pretty solid fantasy game against the Green Bay Packers with 260 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. There was a flash of hope.
The schedule down the stretch for Levis, if he does return, is actually pretty good. He gets Washington, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Jacksonville again. There is really no better schedule for a quarterback for fantasy football. If he is healthy, he could make some noise down the stretch. We’re hoping he does for our own Howard Bender’s sake.
- Honorable Mentions: Jameis Winston, Bryce Young, Justin Fields
NFL Week 8 Running Back Stashes
Blake Corum, RB, Los Angeles Rams, Yahoo: 17%| ESPN: 17% | Sleeper: 24%
Of the best fantasy football stashes, Blake Corum has particular appeal depending on your settings. If you play on Yahoo or Sleeper, you might be able to drop guys that have already played. For instance, on Yahoo if your settings say “Lock Benched Players: No” then you can drop guys after they have played.
That means you can pick up Blake Corum for the Thursday Night Football game this week and, if Kyren Williams doesn’t get hurt, you can drop him for another handcuff for Sunday. Little moves like this can give you an edge. And Sean McVay prefers using a one back system so Corum could be in for a big workload if something were to happen.
Ray Davis - Buffalo Bills, Yahoo: 25% | ESPN: 15% | Sleeper: 29%
Check the main waiver wire article for our full thoughts on Ray Davis but he has some standalone value which makes him more interesting than most other options.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Los Angeles Chargers, Yahoo: 16%| ESPN: 8% | Sleeper: 24%
Vidal got some offseason hype and he’s finally getting some actual action here with Gus Edwards on IR. Last week he caught a touchdown pass, this week he got a few carries and caught another pass. JK Dobbins has a pretty extensive injury history, and the Chargers are a run heavy team, so this is where we want to look.
Keaton Mitchell, RB, Baltimore Ravens, Yahoo: 7%| ESPN: 3% | Sleeper: 6%
Keaton Mitchell has one thing going for him that these other guys don’t - he’s IR eligible. So you can stash him in an IR spot for free as a handcuff to Derrick Henry. Justice Hill would obviously contribute on pass downs but we envision Mitchell being the early and short yardage back. And, in this offense, that’s a good thing. Marshawn Lloyd is another interesting IR eligible guy.
Ray Davis, RB, Buffalo Bills, Yahoo: 8%| ESPN: 7% | Sleeper: 14%
Ray Davis has been in these ‘best fantasy football stashes’ articles all year long. And we just saw why on Monday Night Football. James Cook is expected back so he’ll likely continue to be more of just a handcuff stash, especially with Josh Allen vulturing goal line touchdowns himself.
Still, these are the types of guys that can win leagues if things break just right down the stretch. Talent is there, offense is good.
- Honorable Mentions: Trey Benson, Jaylen Wright, Marshawn Lloyd, Dylan Laube
NFL Week 8 Wide Receiver Stashes
Ricky Pearsall - San Francisco 49ers, Yahoo: 14% | ESPN: 6% | Sleeper: 25%
The season is over for Brandon Aiyuk. We THINK that Jauan Jennings will be elevated to that full-time job with Ricky Pearsall in the part-time slot role. But we don’t know for sure - they might want to keep Jennings in his familiar role with Pearsall trying the Aiyuk role. At the minimum, Ricky Pearsall is now just one injury away from one of the best roles in all of fantasy football.
Ja’Lynn Polk - New England Patriots, Yahoo: 6% | ESPN: 11% | Sleeper: 15%
Rookies can take time to acclimate. We all know that, yet we also get frustrated when they aren’t super stars right away. Polk has come very close to making big plays - plays that other players on the Patriots simply could never make. If we have a roster spot to stash him, we are doing so.
Troy Franklin - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 1%| ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 8%
The Broncos have been experimenting with different combinations out there. And, in Week 6, Troy Franklin got his shot, playing the second most snaps behind only Courtland Sutton. And he scored a touchdown.
This week, he tied for second most with Lil’Jordan Humphrey. He played with Bo Nix in college so the chemistry is there. We have to just hope he continues to get a shot.
- Honorable Mentions: Mason Tipton, Kendrick Bourne, Noah Brown, Jalen Coker, Kavontae Turpin, DeVaughn Vele
NFL Week 8 Tight End Stashes
*For those looking for it, our updated Yin & Yang Tight End chart is in our Week 8 Waiver Wire Article
Hunter Henry - New England Patriots, Yahoo: 31% | ESPN: 27% | Sleeper: 30%
Hunter Henry continues to be our top upside stash though, after his first two games with Drake Maye, he might be graduating to starting tight end right before our eyes. Check the main article for his write up.
Lucas Krull - Denver Broncos, Yahoo: 0% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 0%
With all the uncertainty in Denver, we’re still keeping our eye on Lucas Krull. With Greg Dulcich once again a healthy scratch, he led the Broncos tight end room in routes run once again. He’s now gotten four targets in back-to-back games. This week Bo Nix missed him on a wide-open play, or he could have had a bigger day.
Ja’Tavion Sanders - Carolina Panthers, Yahoo: 1%| ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 7%
Ja’Tavion Sanders has now gotten 7 and 6 targets in the last two weeks. The problem? Tommy Tremble should be back soon. JT Sanders is a better pass-catcher than both Tremble and Ian Thomas so I think he deserves more work. But that’s not up to me, it’s up the Panthers.
- Honorable Mentions: Ben Sinnott, Elijah Higgins, Theo Johnson, Stone Smartt, Brenton Strange
Why Do We Stash?
Obviously, it would be nice if our entire roster was just chock full of stars. Maybe your lineup is (some of my dynasty leagues certainly are). But, for most of us, there will be holes. That’s why we highlight the Top Waiver Wire Adds each week as well as the Best Streamers to get you by.
The best fantasy football stashes though? These are the guys that win you the title. That came out of the woodworks down the stretch like rookie Odell Beckham. or Amon-Ra St. Brown. And it’s our job to find them BEFORE they break out!
Player News
Packers have exercised DT Devonte Wyatt’s fifth-year team option for 2026.
The 27-year-old, who was the 28th overall pick in 2022, has played in 47 games in three seasons with the Packers, recording 12.5 sacks, including five in 2024. Wyatt, who will make $13.9 million in 2026 (per OverTheCap), was the Packers’ highest-graded defensive lineman last season, per PFF.
Ravens will not exercise the fifth-year option on C Tyler Linderbaum.
The two-time Pro Bowler would have made $23.4 million if his option was picked up. “It is our intention for (Linderbaum) to remain a Baltimore Raven long term,” said team EVP and general manger Eric DeCosta on Wednesday. “I’ll let my agent handle that,” Linderbaum said about his contract on April 21. “I’m just focusing on becoming as good of a football player as I can be for this team. [I’m] coming in here every day and putting my best foot forward. Let all the other things take care of itself.” Linderbaum, who was the 25th overall pick in 2022, has started in all 49 games played with the Ravens since his arrival.
Ravens exercised the fifth-year option for S Kyle Hamilton.
Hamilton is now locked up through the 2026 season, with the Ravens likely to hash out a longer-term extension with the outstanding safety in the coming months. Pro Football Focus graded Hamilton as the league’s fourth best cover safety in 2024. He’s served as a critical part of one of the NFL’s best coverage units over his three pro seasons. He has five interceptions and 28 passes defended over those three seasons.
The Vikings have agreed to terms with undrafted free agent WR Myles Price.
The 23-year old Price played four seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Indiana in 2024. He caught 38 passes for 466 yards with three touchdowns in his final collegiate season. His 289 punt return yards ranked fifth most in FBS in 2024, while he forced a Power 4-best 24 missed tackles on punt returns per Pro Football Focus.
Falcons exercised the fifth-year option for WR Drake London.
London, who will turn 24 in July, is locked up for the 2026 season. London has been superb through his first three NFL seasons: Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase were the only other two wideouts to average more than 12 yards per catch on 100 receptions in 2024. London was third in receiving yards and seventh in receptions last season, quickly becoming a target hog with Michael Penix under center for Atlanta. London should be viewed as a top-5 fantasy receiver going into 2025.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Jaguars will not exercise the fifth-year option on LB Devin Lloyd.
The option would have guaranteed Lloyd $14.751 million for the 2026 season. Lloyd, who was the 27th overall pick in 2022, has started 46 of 48 games with the Jaguars since his arrival. In 2024, Lloyd had 113 tackles, two sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble. According to PFF, Lloyd has been the Jaguars’ highest-graded linebacker over the past two seasons. Lloyd will become a free agent next offseason.
