Antonio Pierce praised rookie RB Dylan Laube’s blitz pick-ups, pass-catching talents and overall consistency in practice.
The comments come as Laube competes for the Raiders’ primary passing-down-back and kickoff-returner roles. The former New Hampshire running back dominated FCS defenders both in the receiving and return games. He led the position in targets (88), receptions (68), receiving yards (708) and receiving touchdowns (seven) while also ranking No. 1 overall among FCS returners (min. 25 total returns) by averaging 33.9 yards and 0.7 missed tackles forced on kickoff returns. He is quietly in play as a late-round PPR sleeper.
Raiders GM Tom Telesco has praised sixth-round RB Dylan Laube’s open-field ability.
Good stuff, though Telesco was speaking in the context of Laube’s special-teams potential. Already an ancient 24 years old after a marathon FCS career, Laube can catch passes for days but will likely have to force his way onto the field via the third unit. That might disappoint some overzealous fantasy managers, but nailing down return work would presumably create eventual opportunities on offense. Behind Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, Laube is definitely in the right backfield to do some depth chart climbing.
Raiders selected New Hampshire RB Dylan Laube with the No. 208 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Laube (5’10/206) is a small-school prospect from New Hampshire who excelled both as a runner and receiver. He’s a sixth-year player who amassed more than 4,300 yards from scrimmage but will face a significant test when making the leap from FCS competition to the pros. Laube tested well at the Combine, running a 4.54 40-yard dash while earning an RAS of 9.20. For his career, he forced a missed tackle on 26.6 percent of his rush attempts but didn’t do much after the fact, averaging just 2.81 YCO/ATT. Laube offers plenty of upside as a satellite back, and offer has special teams capabilities (98 career kick/punt returns) to help him stick around on a roster while he acclimates himself to the pro game.
