Happy Jackie Robinson Day! We are going to do something fun today and have every single player included in the playbook wear number 42 to honor Jackie Robinson. Even with all our players wearing 42, this playbook still may not be the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, but it will hopefully hold the answer to building a winning DFS lineup today!

There is the fun early game this morning that will get underway while I am writing this, with the Boston Red Sox facing the Cleveland Guardians in their traditional early Monday morning game for Patriot’s Day.

Jackie Robinson Day is always one of my favorite early days of the season, and it will be great to get to celebrate with some exciting baseball games and by helping all of you put together some quality MLB DFS lineups, so let’s jump right into today’s MLB DFS picks

MLB Weather Today, 4/15

It seems right that we have a beautiful day on Jackie Robinson Day. There should be no real weather concerns today!

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

There are quite a few pitchers I really like today. The three guys I have written up as my favorites are by far my favorites, but I also want to give some love to Frankie Montas, Seth Lugo, Chris Bassitt, Luis Gil, and Martin Perez as other potential options you could build a lineup around today.

On the offensive side, some of the best lineups to target today include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and Kansas City Royals

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles Dodgers

We are seeing the Tyler Glasnow that everyone is dreaming of seeing a full season of. He just struck out 14 batters through 7 scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins. He is now facing the Washington Nationals, and if you can think of a good reason why you shouldn’t be paying up to put him in your lineup today, I would love to hear it.

Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals

Sonny Gray is back! He looked solid in his first start against the Phillies, going 5 innings without giving up a run, with 5 hits and 5 strikeouts. He now gets to face Oakland for his second time on the bump, and I see no reason why he won’t be able to build on that first start, give an easy 6+ strikeouts, and show that he is ready to be the ace for this Cardinals team.

George Kirby, Seattle Mariners

I know that George Kirby hasn’t been what we want him to be so far this season, not making it past 4 innings in his last 2 starts while giving up 13 runs in 7.2 innings with only 5 strikeouts. I don’t care. It will have people running away, making me want to jump in even more.

I still believe George Kirby is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball, this Cincinnati team has the 5th highest strikeout rate against right handers, and I will happily bet on a George Kirby bounce back here today.

Vinnie Pasquantino, 1B Kansas City Royals

Vinnie Pasquantino is looking locked in at the plate right now. He has 8 hits through his last 4 games, including 2 doubles and 2 homers. His homer yesterday was against Ewin Diaz, one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. Today, he faces Nick Nastrini in his first major league start. While I do like Nastrini’s talent, you never know what to expect in a debut, and this Royals offense has been pretty solid lately.

Jose Altuve, 2B Houston Astros

At 33 years old, Jose Altuve is having what might be the best start to a season in his career, and that is saying something. He is slashing .382/.462/.721, trails in OPS to only Marcell Ozuna and Tyler O’Neill, he already has 5 homers and has even thrown in a stolen base (2 homers and that steal all come yesterday). He only has two games without a hit this season and has four games with 3 hits.

Manny Machado, 3B/SS San Diego Padres

Manny Machado has 8 hits over his last 5 games and 2 homers in his last 3. He has still looked more like 2023 Manny Machado than 2022 Manny Machado, but that is still a solid hitter that is providing solid production.

The San Diego Padres are tied with the Dodgers for the highest-scoring offense this season (they do have the most games played), but they are top 5 in OPS as well. Joe Ross has looked pretty good through his first two starts, but I think the Padres will hit him around today.

Marcell Ozuna, OF Atlanta Braves

I already mentioned that Marcell Ozuna is one of the only two guys with an OPS higher than Jose Altuve; he is also tied with Tyler O’Neill for the most home runs in baseball right now. He went 0-5 on opening day; since then, he has a hit in every game.

Through that 13-game hitting streak, he has had a home run in 6 games and multiple hits in 6 games, not to mention the 21 RBIs and 11 runs he has racked up. He bats 5th in one of the best offenses in all of baseball, facing Spencer Arrighetti in his second major league start after he gave up 7 runs through 3 innings in his first start against the Royals.
