Nationals selected the contract of LHP Mitchell Parker from Triple-A Rochester.
Parker will be ineligible for selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 24-year-old southpaw posted a 4.72 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 150/61 K/BB ratio across 124 innings (28 appearances, 26 starts) this past season between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester.
Nationals LHP prospect Mitchell Parker struck out nine while giving up a run in five innings Tuesday for High-A Wilmington.
The southpaw allowed three hits, and also three free passes. The walks have been a problem for Parker, as he’s already issued a whopping 28 walks in his 36 2/3 innings. That being said, he’s also fanned 49 over that timeframe, and he’s been able to work around the self-inflicted damage while posting a 2.21ERA. Drafted in the fifth round out of San Jacinto College, Parker has a four-pitch mix, and two of those offerings are plus in his fastball and curve. The command obviously has to get better, but if it can, Parker has a chance to be a mid-rotation starter. He projects to reach the majors at this point by the end of 2023.
