Padres vs. Pirates Prediction: Tuesday, August 6th

It's not lost on me, the Pirates fan, just how big this series is in the NL Wild Card race. And while I want to believe good things for my guys, I just don’t see it tonight as Bailey Falter takes on Dylan Cease. Falter was shaky at best before his injury, and while he did have a good start last time out, I expect a different result tonight against a Padres team that can hit lefties at the top of the lineup.

That’s where we will start our MLB best bets today – against Falter – as Jurickson Profar has been a monster against the southpaws this season hitting .345 with a 1.002 OPS, by far the best on the team with those splits. Profar is also hitting just .182 to start August, so a turnaround is coming for him, and it may be tonight. Give me the over on his hits+runs+RBIs at 1.5 for tonight.

The other wager for the evening will be backing Dylan Cease, the strikeout machine who has punched out 36 batters in his last 4 starts over 27.2 innings pitched. He’s in a big spot with the matchup as the Pirates have the 7th highest K-rate in MLB at 24.3%. Give me the over on his 7.5 strikeouts tonight at plus money all day long!

Mets vs. Rockies Prediction: Tuesday, August 6th

Anytime there’s a bad pitcher taking the mound in Coors Field, it will have my attention, and that’s exactly what we have tonight as Kyle Freeland starts for the Rockies against the Mets! Freeland is holding down a 5.64 ERA on the season and, while he was better in July, the Mets offense is coming to town desperate for wins in the Wild Card race.

Hits and runs will be the name of the game for tonight in the Mets offense as Freeland allows an over .300 average to both righties and lefties on the season. I am looking at one player specifically and it is Mark Vientos, who has been swinging the pole nicely since the start of July. Against lefties, he is hitting .366 with an OPS of 1.116 which is remarkable, and his prop line of 1.5 total bases is very appealing as he’s hit 5 extra base hits in the last 7 games. Let’s nail that over.

The other MLB predictions in this game include the Mets going over 5.5 team total runs, which is the normal line when you play the Rockies and something they can easily do with this lineup. The other wager will be on the Mets run line of -1.5 as they are hitting 45.8% ATS as road favorites this season. That may seem low, but it’s good enough for the 10th best mark in MLB this season.
