Colts QB Anthony Richardson said “I’m all good” when asked about his shoulder injury and availability for training camp.
Richardson said he expects to be ready for training camp, which aligns with a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport from a few weeks ago that said Richardson is “expected to be fine” by the start of camp. Richardson downplayed his most recent injury, saying it was “not really even a bump in the road” and that he has “hit the ground running again.” The former No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft is expected to battle Daniel Jones for the Colts’ starting job this summer, and is shaping up to be the underdog in the battle given last year’s performances and time lost due to injuries this offseason. He’ll get a fair shake at the job, but he’s far from a lock to be handed the keys in Week 1.
Padres activated OF Jackson Merrill from the 7-day concussion injured list.
Merrill returns for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals after missing just over one week recovering from a concussion that he suffered back on June 15. The 22-year-old fantasy stalwart, who has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, is hitting .304 with five homers and one steal in 44 games.
Padres optioned OF Brandon Lockridge to Triple-A El Paso.
There simply isn’t a spot for Lockridge on San Diego’s roster with Jackson Merrill back from the injured list. The 28-year-old rookie outfielder has gotten into 47 games this season in the big leagues.
Braves sent RHP José Ruiz outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Ruiz has the ability to elect free agency and will presumably do exactly that in the coming days. The 30-year-old righty was removed from Atlanta’s relief mix earlier this week after struggling in a pair of appearances after being claimed off waivers from the Phillies.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) will likely make his next start this week in the majors.
Eovaldi will skip a rehab assignment entirely and jump back into Texas’ rotation mix after making it through Saturday’s live batting practice session without any issues or setbacks. The 35-year-old veteran will likely have some workload limitation from a pitch count standpoint in his return outing, but it’s a boost for fantasy managers that he’s coming back. He’s been out since late May working his way back from triceps fatigue.
Matt Chapman (hand) could resume swinging a bat on Tuesday.
Chapman said Sunday that he got his splint off on Friday. The 32-year-old defensive wizard hit the injured list back in early June with right hand inflammation and isn’t expected to return until around early-to-mid July. There’s zero incentive for the Giants to rush him back and risk a setback.
