Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) will likely make his next start this week in the majors.
Eovaldi will skip a rehab assignment entirely and jump back into Texas’ rotation mix after making it through Saturday’s live batting practice session without any issues or setbacks. The 35-year-old veteran will likely have some workload limitation from a pitch count standpoint in his return outing, but it’s a boost for fantasy managers that he’s coming back. He’s been out since late May working his way back from triceps fatigue.
Matt Chapman (hand) could resume swinging a bat on Tuesday.
Chapman said Sunday that he got his splint off on Friday. The 32-year-old defensive wizard hit the injured list back in early June with right hand inflammation and isn’t expected to return until around early-to-mid July. There’s zero incentive for the Giants to rush him back and risk a setback.
Zach Neto is on the bench for Sunday’s series finale against the Astros.
It appears to be a routine maintenance day for Neto, who has started every game for the Angels since May 26. The 24-year-old burgeoning star has been excellent this season since returning from the injured list with 10 homers and 12 steals in 58 games. It’ll be veteran Kevin Newman taking a turn at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in his place.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Suns acquired Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five future second-round picks from the Rockets in exchange for Kevin Durant.
With Durant’s time in Phoenix expected to end this summer, new Suns general manager Brian Gregory likely hoped to use this as an opportunity to add some young talent to the roster while also restocking the team’s draft capital. Sunday’s reported trade accomplished that, with Green headed to the Valley of the Sun along with Brooks and a total of six draft picks. While Green did finish this season with averages of 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.9 three-pointers per game, his inefficiency was an issue at times, especially during Houston’s first-round playoff loss to Golden State. While one would assume that he’ll be a key figure in Phoenix, the Suns still have Bradley Beal on their roster, due mainly to his no-trade clause. Green should play plenty, but sharing the ball with Beal and Devin Booker may result in decreased usage.
Athletics selected the contract of RHP Jack Perkins from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Perkins earns his first shot in the majors after posting a strong 2.86 ERA with a 68/20 K/BB ratio across across 44 innings (nine starts) this season at the Triple-A level. The unheralded fifth-round pick from the 2022 MLB Draft figures to operate in long relief initially.
Athletics optioned RHP Anthony Maldonado to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Maldonado has been up-and-down this season as middle relief depth for the Athletics, allowing eight runs over six innings across six appearances in the big leagues.
