THE DEAL
Reds Receive: 2B Tony Renda, 3B Eric Jaielo RHP Caleb Cothman, RHP Rookie Davis
Yankees Receive: LHP Aroldis Chapman
Jon Heyman – scout: rookie davis "has good stuff. power arm and strike thrower." jagielo "can really hit but needs to get healthy"
Jim Callis - Davis might have cracked our @Yankees top 5 when we revamped the list later this winter.
Ken Rosenthal - #Reds view Jagielo and Davis as legitimate prospects. Think Jagielo can hit when healthy. See Davis as starter - 92-96 mph with big curve.
John Manuel - Davis & Jagielo in #Yankees top 15, others not even in NYY top 30 in upcoming Prospect Handbook.
An overall review from MLB.
THE NUMBERS
Here are numbers from me about Chapman in the piece titled Reliever Roulette.
Other’s thoughts.
Jason Collette - Scherzer led all pitchers generating 574 swings & misses in 2015 (3359 pitches). Chapman+Miller+Betances totaled 645 in 2015 (3505 pitches)
Jeff Passan - From my editor, @marcowill: Chapman, Miller, Betances in 2015 had 212 IP, 121 H, 14 HR, 93 BB, 347 Ks, 1.70 ERA. Like a Cy Young starter.
Barry Svrluga – In 2015, Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller combined for a 1.70 ERA and -- get this -- 347 Ks in 212 innings pitched. Yep.
TheAceofSpaeder - Aroldis Chapman had struck out 42.9% of batters faced during his career. The highest rate all-time among pitchers with at least 300 innings.
Joel Sherman - Chapman is forecasted to get about $13M in final year of arbitration. Remember #Yankees can qualify next offseason to try to get draft pick
Daren Willman - Aroldis Chapman since 2011 has thrown 1241 pitches 100 MPH+... The rest of MLB combined 1187.
Yankees PR - Top 3 Strikeouts Totals by Relievers in 2015: 1. @DBetances50 (131) 2. @AChapman_105 (116) 3. @a_miller48 (100)
THE ISSUES
There are plenty.
Ken Rosenthal discusses teams’ willingness to add Chapman despite of the field concerns.
Jeff Passan has the actual police report from his last incident.
And now, my thoughts follow (all taken from my Twitter account - @baseballguys).
Talent is talent, but at some point don't the people these athletes are matter? How could you feel good paying some guys millions?
If I'm the Reds I want no part of Chapman. Just not worth it. Even if most recent charges are false, ticking time bomb is he.
I find people's cavalier attitudes toward gun violence disturbing.
Do you all realize that of 8 shots Chapman fired one went through a window into a field? He could have killed someone.
Chapman's eight shots were also fired with a four month old in the house.
He kept his gun in the glovebox of his car.
He punched the window in his car cutting his hand.
Even if the abuse chargers are false, does that sound like a stable person to you?
25 days earlier there was another issue with Chapman and his on/off girlfriend.
On the field Chapman is amazing. I would never want him on my team though.
"Aroldis Chapman’s hotel room robbed; woman found there bound at the wrists" reminds @gq2scoops - http://ow.ly/WoIG1

So for those of you who said this is the first time he's been in trouble you might want to check out the last series of tweets.
I just don't get some of you... making excuses for a guy who has a pattern of poor behavior - at best - cause he throws 100 mph.
