NFL DFS Week 8 QB Coach: Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes & Tua Tagovailoa
Published: Oct 23, 2024
Week 8 of the NFL season has arrived and we have one of the biggest slates of the year with 13 games on DraftKings and 14 games over on FanDuel.
Coming off one of the worst weeks of football where Week 7 saw major injuries and complete dud performances from top tier players we are grateful to turn the page and look into what should be a much better Week 8 for DFS.
As with every week, this week, we once again look to take advantage of some top matchups for our NFL DFS Week 8 QB coach as I bring you my NFL DFS Week 8 QB coach top targets, values and fades to build your lineups around this weekend.
NFL DFS Week 7 QB Coach Recap
Player | Pts | $ | Post | Value | Tier | Pos Finish |
Jayden Daniels | 5.24 | 7.6 | QB | 0.7 | Top | 19 |
Jalen Hurts | 22.76 | 7.3 | QB | 3.1 | Top | 2 |
Jordan Love | 18.8 | 6.9 | QB | 2.7 | Top | 5 |
Jared Goff | 18.8 | 6.5 | QB | 2.9 | Mid | 6 |
Brock Purdy | 20.18 | 6.4 | QB | 3.2 | Mid | 3 |
Sam Darnold | 17.26 | 6.2 | QB | 2.8 | Mid | 8 |
Anthony Richardson | 9.76 | 6 | QB | 1.6 | Value | 13 |
Geno Smith | 17.78 | 5.8 | QB | 3.1 | Value | 7 |
Tyler Huntley | 9.48 | 5.1 | QB | 1.9 | Value | 14 |
Patrick Mahomes | 14.06 | 7 | QB | 2.0 | Fade | 10 |
Honestly, all things considered, the Week 7 QB coach wasn't too bad. The Jayden Daniels injury was out of our control but we had four of the top six in the QB coach and six of the top 10.
Patrick Mahomes was our fade, and though he finished as QB10, he only returned 2x value and scored 14.06 fantasy points so I'm chalking that up as a win.
Tyler Huntley also left with an injury so that is an incomplete.
Week 8 has some really good matchups to attack and should be a monster bounce back week coming.
NFL DFS Week 8 QB Coach For FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy
NFL DFS QB Top Tier Picks For Week 8
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills - DraftKings: $7,800 | FanDuel: $9,400
It's honestly amazing how quickly perception of a player will change when they get talent around them. It's really nothing about Josh Allen. I know he can be elite. He's put up elite numbers this season while essentially playing by himself but the acquisition of Amari Cooper just completely elevates Allen in my mind and its starting to look like Keon Coleman is adjusting as well.
If Cooper's debut was just the tipping point of what is to come, Allen is not only an elite play this week against Seattle but stacking with a pretty cheap Cooper also makes sense.
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles - DraftKings: $7,500 | FanDuel: $8,600
Hurts only attempted 14 passes last week against the Giants but still managed nearly 23 fantasy points because he is unstoppable in the red zone.
Hurts threw for a touchdown and “ran” for two more as he took two one-yard plunges into the end zone with the “brotherly shove”.
This week the Eagles are on the road again, this time against a Bengals offense that should put more pressure on the Eagles to air it out.
The rushing upside makes Hurts elite but if this ends up being a shootout where he is also forced to throw, he could easily be the top scoring QB of the week.
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs - DraftKings: $6,800 | FanDuel: $8,000
How about waking up on Wednesday morning to the news that the Chiefs have traded for DeAndre Hopkins? Sure, Hopkins hasn't been 100% this season but getting to play with an elite QB seemingly solves all problems and reports are out that Hopkins will be ready to go for the Chiefs matchup this week against the Raiders.
We have yet to see elite numbers from Mahomes this season but if Hopkins is a full go, I'd expect to see this passing attack take a step forward.
NFL DFS QB Mid-Tier Picks For NFL Week 8
Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons - DraftKings: $6,200 | FanDuel: $7,100
This game isn't going to be the barn burner we saw two weeks ago with the Buccaneers now missing both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin but I'm still in for Cousins having himself a big night. The Buccaneers pass defense is not never good but their run defense, aside from the few big runs allowed to Derrick Henry last week, is generally solid.
We are starting to see Kyle Pitts look like a TE1 and we know that Drake London and Darnell Mooney can always make big plays.
Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins - DraftKings: $6,100 | FanDuel: $7,800
Listen, if he is good to go then why not run him out there? We've been waiting for the Dolphins offense to look like the team that was among the leaders in yards and points last season but it's clear that without Tua the offense is a non-factor. We now have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle at reasonable price tags and even Tua himself is a good value here in a great matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears - DraftKings: $6,000 | FanDuel: $7,400
Fresh off a bye week, we were all excited to see Caleb Williams vs Jayden Daniels this week but instead it looks like we are going to be getting Caleb Williams vs Marcus Mariota after Daniels suffered a rib injury last week.
Williams has been impressive over his last two starts, averaging 27 fantasy points per game while throwing six touchdowns with just one interceptions.
The Commanders pass defense is not very good and with the Bears have the top tier receivers to make them pay.
NFL Week 8 DFS QB Value Picks
Bo Nix, Denver Broncos - DraftKings: $6,900 | FanDuel: $7,800
Rookie QB's are impossible to predict but Nix hasn't been too bad from a DFS perspective of late. Last week against the Saints he had 14 fantasy points while rushing for 75 yards. The two prior weeks he had over 20 fantasy points while throwing two touchdowns in each game.
This week the Broncos are back home and facing a bad Panthers defense. I'd be 100% OK playing Nix naked this week as a value play or throwing a dart with Troy Franklin as a stack.
Jameis Winston, Cleveland Browns - DraftKings: $5,200 | FanDuel: $6,500
Last week saw the Browns stun everyone by trading Amari Cooper and then come gameday we see Deshaun Watson tear his achilles.
Enter Jameis Winston now as the starting QB and maybe we have some renewed life in this offense and passing attack.
The Browns are home against a Ravens defense that really hasn't done well against the pass this season and we know Winston is not afraid to throw it downfield and try to make big plays.
NFL DFS QB Fades For Week 8
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DraftKings: $6,700 | FanDuel: $8,000
Hard to trust a QB, even with how good he has been, when he is going to be without BOTH of his top two wide receivers with Mike Evans unlikely to return until Week 12 and Chris Godwin lost for the season.
Maybe we see Sterling Shepard, Trey Palmer and rookie Jalen McMillan step up and allow for Mayfield to continue his strong season but I won't be playing him until we see it.
NFL Week 8 QB Play Of The Week
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers - DraftKings: $7,100 | FanDuel: $8,900
I know, Love is always in the QB coach and has been the Play of the Week a few times but can you really blame me?
He threw another three touchdowns last week and now has three or more touchdown passes in three of the last four games.
In DFS we need touchdowns and Love has already thrown 15 on the season while having missed two weeks due to injury.
The Jaguars have the worst pass defense in the NFL and Love should absolutely pick them apart this weekend.
