The harsh reality of the NFL season is that it’s a small sample size sport. We don’t have 162 games to work with like baseball or even 80 like the others. You can’t fall behind the 8-ball early and expect to compete. And only one team gets to win the division which leaves precious few wild card spots for the others.

The New York Giants are fighting to stay alive at 1-3. And the Seattle Seahawks, sitting atop the NFC West, can feel the San Francisco 49ers breathing down their neck. Every game matters in the NFL and there’s nothing worse than looking back at a game you dropped and wondering “what could have been”. With our Week 5 Giants vs. Seahawks predictions, we’ll do our best to look ahead at how we think this one pans out this week!

Giants vs. Seahawks Predictions For NFL Week 5, 4:25 PM ET Sunday 10/6

These teams have played in October in each of the last two seasons. And the Seahawks have gotten the best of the Giants both times, winning 24-3 last year and 27-13 the year before that.  Obviously each year starts anew and each team is different so we’ll break down strengths and weaknesses based on those merits.

The Giants so far have lost to the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders, and Dallas Cowboys while defeating the Cleveland Browns 21-15. The Seahawks have beaten the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins but their undefeated streak ended last Monday with a 42-29 loss to the Detroit Lions. This week they’ll square off Sunday at 4:25 PM ET in New York.

New York Giants: Daniel Jones and the Walking Wounded

The big story so far this year with the Giants has been breakout star wide receiver Malik Nabers. He’s been every bit of the stud they thought he would be when they took him with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. And he was actually on pace to set the single season target record before suffering a concussion last week. The Giants this week will be without both Nabers and starting running back Devin Singletary for the matchup.

The Giants defense has been solid against the run with guys like Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux up front and Bobby Okereke patrolling the middle. It’s been in the secondary where they have struggled, ranking 21st in DVOA per FTN Fantasy. They’re hoping to get cornerback Adoree' Jackson back this week who has not played in two games.

Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith For MVP?

There are a lot of great players in the league today, including a lot of great quarterbacks. You not only need to play at a high level, but the selection almost always comes from a winning team. Geno Smith might not be a front runner, but he is quietly building an impressive resume, leading a 3-1 team while also leading the league in passing yards through four games.

He’ll need to pad his stats with some touchdown passes if he wants a shot, but this Ryan Grubb offense is the place to do it. They brought Grubb in from Washington specifically for his ability with three receiver sets and he has not disappointed so far in his utilization of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. And Kenneth Walker is thriving as well.

On defense the Seahawks have been stout as they’re in the top five in DVOA per FTN. Missing Boye Mafe hurt last week but they are hoping to have him back this week. And Tariq Woolen has been one of the best out there when it comes to shutting down opposing wide receivers.

Giants vs. Seahawks: Seahawks -6.5 (-120 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

To beat a team without your star players, you need a star quarterback. And Daniel Jones simply is not a star quarterback at this juncture. Malik Nabers would have been in for a tough assignment with Tariq Woolen but, since he’s out, that assignment trickles down to Darius Slayton or Jalen Hyatt. Wan’Dale Robinson will need to work miracles out of the slot (so his over/under of 6.5 receptions at +110 isn’t a bad bet).

The Seattle Seahawks on the other hand are one of the deepest teams in football. If they lose a wide receiver, they still have two great ones (and Jake Bobo waiting in the wings). Noah Fant gets banged up? AJ Barner scores a touchdown. The week Kenneth Walker was out, Zach Charbonnett scored TWO touchdowns. This Seahawks team is for real.

Most books have the line set at 7 and the cheapest we have found -6.5 as of now is -120 at FanDuel. It’s not the end of the world to take them at 7 as we think the Seahawks handle business but getting the hook down from the key number feels a little better for us.
