NFL Week 5 is here, Thursday Night Football kicks off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facing the Atlanta Falcons and it’s time, once again, for you to finalize those weekly picks for 2024 NFL Pick Em Confidence Pools. 

We had a really nice rebound last week, going 11-5 with our picks and turning out a solid weekly total thanks to elevating certain selections in confidence that many kept lower in their own picks. The favorites went 9-7 for the week, as did the home teams, so not really a whole lot to go with there. 

If I can dole out a bit of confidence pool advice, it’s to look at how the favorites and the home teams do each week. Just keep a chart so you can see if any trends develop. The data still needs time to develop, but it’s a great way to start and a good habit to practice.

Our strategy for making out 2024 NFL Pick Em Confidence Pool picks is going to remain the same this week as it did last week. If you are near the top of your standings, you maintain your process. You’re doing just fine and it’s a long season. The worst confidence pool advice to give would be to tell you to shake things up. I’m much more of a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of guy and it would seem that you’re doing just fine.

If you find yourself in the back half of the standings of your 2024 NFL Pick Em Confidence pools, then we’re going to continue looking for ways to move up. Does that involve taking a few more risks? Yes, it does. But again, the worst confidence pool advice I could give you here is to tell you it’s going to be okay and there's plenty of time to make up ground. Yuck. The last thing you want is to watch the early-season leaders extend their lead over you. 

Again, I’m not saying that my confidence pools advice here is to fully embrace the chaos, take all underdogs or go against everything you believe to be true, but you might have to take the opposite sides of some games we believe could go either way. Or, if you’ve got a great read on a longshot, maybe this is the place to act on it.

We took a few risky shots last week that paid off, but we are far from out of the woods just yet. Last week was strong, but we still have a lot of ground to make up in our standings, if you’ve been tailing my picks. A lot of ground to make up.

In looking at this week’s slate, though, too many risks might put you deeper into the hole. There are only three games that have a point-spread greater than five points. We have a lot of close games on the slate and while taking a few picks the opposite of the chalk, you don’t want to take too many. Just enough to give you a little bit of a move up, but not too many that you find yourself in dead last. Slow and steady wins the race. How’s that for confidence pool advice?
