MLB DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Wednesday Playbook

Published: Sep 11, 2024
Welcome to Wednesday! We have a full day of baseball, with some early baseball today to enjoy as we get prepped for this evening’s slate with today’s playbook. While the Red Sox and Mariners’ playoff hopes are dwindling, the Detroit Tigers are making a surprise push as they try to catch the Twins for the final playoff spot.
We remain dialed in across the league and will be looking to build some more winning MLB DFS lineups today!
We have a great 8-game slate this evening that will be getting started at 7:05 PM ET on both DraftKings and FanDuel. We have plenty of great pitchers taking the mound and some strong lineups to target, with plenty of top-tier and value options across the board. Let's get right into today’s ML DFS projections and playbook with all of my favorite MLB DFS picks for the day!
MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, September 11
There are some great pitching options today. Blake Snell and Cole Ragans don’t make my favorites today, but that is more because I like King and Brown and not because I dislike Snell and Ragans. They both provide insane upside but have seen some struggles recently and have difficult matchups. The middle tier holds some quality upside as well, with Luis Gil, Nick Pivetta, and Bryan Woo all being solid pitchers that I would also consider today.
On the offensive side, I like some lineups a lot today, with my favorites being the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals.

MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Michael King, San Diego Padres
Michael King delivered another great start in his last outing, throwing 6 innings, giving up only one run off a solo homer, and striking out 8. He is an elite strikeout pitcher, and even on a slate with guys like Blake Snell and Cole Ragans, he has the best strikeout odds on the slate.
Facing the Seattle Mariners, who still hold the highest strikeout rate of any team on the season, he should have no issue piling up the strikeouts, and with the Padres offense clicking right now, he carries a great chance at a win even while having to face a quality pitcher in Bryan Woo on the other side.
Hunter Brown, Houston Astros
Hunter Brown looked cooked to start the season and bounced back to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for most of the season. Since the end of May, he has had quality starts in 16 of his 19 starts. Over that stretch of 115.2 innings, he leads the league with a 2.02 ERA.
Even with the huge steps forward the Oakland offense has taken, they don’t scare me away from Hunter Brown at all for MLB DFS picks today, and he should give us another quality start, a great chance at a win with Joey Estes on the other side, and at least 6 strikeouts.
Zebby Matthews, Minnesota Twins
Zebby Matthews is better than what we have seen in his last two starts. Before getting roughed up by Toronto and the Royals (mostly Toronto), he had 7 strikeouts in 5 innings giving up only 1 run against a good Cardinals offense.
The Angles are slashing .188/.269/.346 with a 26.5% strikeout rate against righties over the last month. They provide an excellent bounce-back spot, as they are by far the worst offense he has faced yet. This price is far too low for a pitcher with legitimate talent like Matthews in this good matchup. Just understand that he still comes with some risk.
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Minnesota Twins vs. Jack Kochanowicz
- Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Jordan Wicks
- Boston Red Sox vs. Dean Kremer
- Houston Astros vs. Joey Estes
MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters
Michael Busch, 1B Chicago Cubs
I still believe in Bobby Miller’s talent as a pitcher and will be looking for him to bounce back next season, but he simply does not have anything working right now. Over his last five starts, he has a 9.49 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and 3.65 HR/9.
The Angels just dropped 7 runs with 3 homers on him in his last start despite him still striking out 8, so this Cubs offense should not have any problem doing some damage. Michael Busch provides a great value option in this offense, likely batting 2nd in the lineup; he can offer some good power from the left side of the plate against Miller today.
Tommy Edman, OF/SS Los Angeles Dodgers
Tommy Edman has been an incredible addition to this Dodgers offense, slashing .293/.316/.427 through his first 20 games. More importantly, against lefties, he has been insane with a .440/.423/.800 slash line (1.223 OPS). Those are ridiculous numbers in one of the best offenses in baseball that you can get for $3,700.
He also found himself batting 4th in the lineup and smacked 2 homers, so facing another lefty today, I see no reason why they wouldn’t keep him in that spot. He is basically a must roster whether you are putting him at short or in your outfield.
Yordan Alvarez/Kyle Tucker, OF Houston Astros
These two Astro stars are way too affordable for being top outfield options today. Joey Estes has really struggled with the long ball this season and has a 1.57 HR/9 against lefties. Yordan Alvarez being under $6,000 feels like a steal with his constant double-homer threat and overall production.
Kyle Tucker at $5,300 seems like even more of a steal. Sure, this is just his 4th game back from the IL but we are talking about one of the best hitters in baseball and someone who is consistently an over $6,000 hitter.
Cedric Mullins, OF Baltimore Orioles
2021 called; they want their Cedric Mullins back. He has a 1.338 OPS with 2 homers and 3 steals over his last 10 games. He had a huge game yesterday with 2 homers and a steal, and I am hoping he can keep the magic going today.
Nick Pivetta is a solid pitcher, but his biggest struggle has always been with homers, and that has continued this season with a 1.75 HR/9. This will provide a great opportunity for Mullins to keep this power surge going in today's MLB DFS picks.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
Endy Rodriguez (finger) had his splint removed this week.
Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14th. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.
