2025 Player Outlook
King successfully transitioned to full-time starting pitcher after pitching mostly out of the Yankees bullpen over the previous four seasons. He delivered 173.2 innings over 30 starts, posting a 2.95 ERA and 27.7 percent strikeout rate. His filthy change-up induced an elite 36.2 percent whiff rate and helped him neutralize both sides of the plate. He is locked into a rotation spot for the playoff-hopeful Padres.

King threw 54-of-90 pitches for strikes, and he allowed four hits and a pair of walks. One of those hits was a two-run homer by Christian Walker, but outside of that the right-hander limited the hard contact. King allowed only a pair of singles, walked one and struck out eight in the 110-pitch gem. It’s his first complete game in 53 career starts, and he joined Nathan Eovaldi (against the Reds) in having a shutout this season. Following a rough Opening Day start against the Braves, he’s allowed a total of three runs and struck out 21 in three straight wins. He’ll aim for an encore in Houston next weekend.
