Published: Sep 27, 2024
Happy Friday! We have made it! It is the end of the season, and this is my final playbook of the regular season. It has been a fantastic season, and as always, 162 games fly by far too quickly.
Thank you to everyone who has engaged with all of our content at Fantasy Alarm this season. Let’s end it on a high note with more winning MLB DFS lineups today, and then start getting excited for the postseason!
We have a great 12-game slate for us on this final Friday of the season that will start at 7:05 PM ET on DraftKings and FanDuel.
We end things with an exciting slate with the Dodgers in Coors and plenty of teams still with things to play for. Let’s end things with some wins and jump into today’s playbook and all of my favorite MLB DFS picks for the day!
MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, September 27
There is a lot more uncertainty and risk when it comes to pitching on the final weekend. You are better off playing pitchers on teams that still have something to play for because if not, there is a much higher chance that pitchers could be limited if the season is over or if they are being rested to prepare for the playoffs. You can still play those guys; just understand the extra risk that comes with them.
Other pitchers besides my favorites who you could consider today include Jose Berrios, Pablo Lopez, Nick Pivetta, and Frankie Montas.
On the offensive side, we have the Dodgers in Coors today, but you sure have to pay for them. I am not against playing some Dodgers, but with their exorbitant prices, I think there are great options that allow you to fade the Dodgers in Coors today. My favorite lineups to target today outside of the Dodgers include the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Atlanta Braves.
MLB Weather Today, 9/27
Some rain this evening could cause a delay, but I am not too worried about a postponement.

MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Max Fried, Atlanta Braves
Max Fried has looked great as of late. He has gone at least 6 innings in his last 5 starts and has 6 or more strikeouts in each of his previous 4. He hit around a bit by the Nationals, giving up 11, but only 4 earned runs through 6 while striking out 6. The Braves need to win games right now, and Fried will be doing everything he can to put themselves in a position to do so.
The Royals have been terrible against left-handed pitching over the last month. They have a 25.2% strikeout rate and are slashing only .201/.251/.327 against lefties over the last month. With the increased strikeout rate, Fried should have a great chance to put up a great outing today as a top pitcher.
Carlos Rodon, New York Yankees
The biggest question is whether Carlos Rodon will be limited at all, but I don’t think he will. Having earned themselves a bye already, the Yankees don’t have to worry about needing Carlos Rodon ready to pitch again early next week. This means this should be a pretty normal start for Rodon as his final outing before the postseason.
The strikeouts were a bit lower over his last two outings, but they were still pretty solid starts, and before that, he had a stretch of 8, 11, and 9 strikeouts. Pittsburgh is not much of a threat, and I think I will be a spot where he can get back into the 7+ strikeout territory again with a great chance at a win as long as he doesn’t get limited.
Sean Manaea, New York Mets
Sean Manaea has been excellent. If the Mets make the postseason, I think Manaea is easily the #1 pitcher in that rotation right now. Over his last 11 starts, he has gone either 6.2 or 7 innings in all but 1. Over that stretch, he has a 2.63 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and a 30.3% strikeout rate.
Milwaukee has a solid offense, but it is way better against right-handers. Over the last month, against lefties, they have a 27.1% strikeout rate and a .215 batting average. These are must-win games for the Mets, and I expect the same Manaea we have seen over the last two months.
Cade Povich, Baltimore Orioles
If you need a punt play today because you are trying to pay up for the Dodgers (or even not but want guys like Ketel Marte, Jose Ramirez, etc.), Cade Povich is the clear play. Given his recent performance and the upside he brings, he should not be this cheap.
He has accumulated 30 strikeouts in 22 innings over his last four starts, a 3.27 ERA, and a 0.95 WHIP. How deep he can go into the game is a concern, but against this struggling Twins team, I think we can expect another very solid outing. If he continues this strikeout rate, he will easily be worth this low price today.
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cal Quantrill
- Toronto Blue Jays vs. Adam Oller
- Colorado Rockies vs. Tony Gonsolin
- Boston Red Sox vs. Taj Bradley
MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters
Matt Olson, 1B Atlanta Braves
Over the last month, Matt Olson has returned to being vintage Matt Olson. Since August 24th, he has slashed .343/.440/.686 with 8 homers, 12 doubles, and 34 RBIs. With how he is hitting, he should cost around $6,000, but you get him for $5,300.
I am not saying that Ohtani couldn’t easily be worth the $8,000 he costs, but when I can save $2,700 and get Matt Olson today, I have a really hard time justifying that insane price tag for Ohtani today. It makes getting Matt Olson at this price feel like even more of a steal.
Ketel Marte, 2B Arizona Diamondbacks
Here is another reason I am not finding myself paying for Dodgers today: I want Ketel Marte. Second base feels like a wasteland today. While I could see paying for some Dodgers, Lux up at $4,800 is not one of them, and I think it is Marte or bust at 2nd today (by bust, I mean punting to someone like Brendan Donovan or all the way down to Vaughn Grissom)
Ketel Marte still has an OPS over 1.000 (1.071) against lefties this season and might be earning himself his first-ever top-3 finish in MVP voting (he was 4th in 2019). He is such a step above anyone else at 2nd base today that he provides a significant advantage to lineups even at this price.
Fernando Tatis, OF San Diego Padres
While we didn’t get a full season out of Tatis this season after he missed the entirety of July and August, he has still been excellent while on the field this season, especially since his return in September. In September, he has slashed .296/.321/.642 with 7 doubles, 7 homers, and 3 steals.
The Padres will be dangerous in the postseason, and Tatis should be a large part of that. He is the best player on a team with a lot of talent. Merrill Kelly has been pitching well lately, but not good enough to shy me away from the Padres or a player like Tatis.
Michael Harris, OF Atlanta Braves
The run that Michael Harris is on right now is absurd. He has hits in 12 of his last 13 games. He has multiple hits in each of his last 5 games (3 hits in 4 of them). In those previous 13 games, he has 7 homers, 11 extra-base hits, 16 runs, 13 RBIs, a stolen base, and a 1.288 OPS.
Brady Singer has a 5.92 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over the last two months. He has struggled even against some not-great offenses, and this improving Braves offense could do a lot of damage today.
