Taj Bradley gave up four runs in five innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Rangers.
Bradley allowed just two hits, but they were both first-inning homers and two of his four walks came sandwiched in between them. He bounced back nicely from there and ended up with seven strikeouts and a 33% CSW. Consistency, though, is a thing Bradley still doesn’t bring to the table, and it makes him a middling mixed-league option in a tougher situation for Rays pitchers this year.
Taj Bradley allowed two runs on five hits in six innings in the Rays’ win over the Rockies on Sunday.
The 24-year-old struck out seven and walked nobody while getting 12 whiffs on the day. Perhaps most importantly, Bradley had a 61% strike rate or better on all three of his pitches. He wasn’t quite able to keep the four-seam fastball up in the zone, which has been crucial to his success in the past, so that’s something to keep an eye on moving forward, but he was good enough against the Rockies today. He had just a 20 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW on the day and might need to be a little better next week against the Rangers.
Taj Bradley surrendered four runs — three earned — and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Bradley did not have the splitter working today; he threw it 22 times and failed to get a single missed swing. His three official starts this spring have seen him post a 3.38 ERA and a 9/5 K/BB in 10 2/3 innings. The Rays have a tough rotation decision to make prior to the end of the spring, but Bradley should be safe. He’s just not one of our favorite mixed-league targets.
Taj Bradley surrendered two runs — one earned — in three innings Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Bradley dealt with a lot of traffic today in giving up five hits and walking three, but he was able to strike out five to limit the damage. He has a 1.69 ERA through two spring outings, and while the Rays haven’t confirmed any rotation members beyond Shane McClanahan, it’d be a major surprise if Bradley is excluded.
